  • MY WORD: Focusing on a commonsense approach

Several months, an otherwise pleasant evening was suddenly ruined when I stepped onto wet carpet in the basement of our home. Heavy rains had put our sump pump to the test and it finally failed. The water rose and soon our entire basement was in danger of being soaked.

    Concerns about a “good neighbor”

    Dear Editor:

  • WHAT WE THINK: What’s the hold up?

For a month now the Shelby County Board of Education has tabled a decision on redistricting its voting precincts, but we just can’t seem to understand why.

According to Shelby CountY Clerk Sue Carole Perry the school board has not altered its voting districts since 1999.

To us, that seems like a really long time.

We understand that it is not mandatory, although there seems to have been some confusion on that front throughout the process.

We could all take a moment and learn from the Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks and Rec. Cardinals instructional league baseball team.

This group of 8-and-under sluggers literally put their teammate on their backs for the season and came through as a gritty underdog to win the league’s postseason tournament title.

    Questioning Diageo waste plans

  • WHAT WE THINK: Something stinks with city garbage delay

Somehow we fail to see the problems that are plaguing the city of Shelbyville and its leaders in regards to getting a curbside trash and recycling franchise agreement put together.

Once the ordinance was approved this spring, all that was left was for the council to submit the Request for Proposal and wait for the bids from Republic, Rumpke and Waste Management to come in.
