    Animal control issues

Tracy Miller of Speak Out And Rescue wrote this evaluation of animal control issues in Shelby County:

“I visited Shelby County on Friday to take a look at some of the dogs chained in that county. There are some folks there who want “chain-ge,” and hopefully steps will be taken to put a law in place to stop this cruel practice. With the Shelby County ‘NO KILL’ mission, one would hope there would be support for such a law.

    ‘Deceitful’ treatment

Last week my family adopted a puppy from the Shelby County Animal Shelter. They

said the fee was $65. This was to include her first set of shots, spay and  microchip.

She had her first vet appointment today. The only info we had to give the vets office was a single piece of paper with hardly any info on it. It does however say that she was given her first set of shots.

    Schools need to refocus

I received a phone call and a memo from East Middle School yesterday afternoon saying due to budget cuts they will no longer be providing ESS before school.  After reading all the articles in your paper in regards to Collins High School and the issues that the school is having, I started to wonder if the school board is cutting other schools’ funding in our district because they have to make up for all the mistakes at Collins. I became highly upset and started seeing red.

    What Miller wanted

I had attended the Fiscal Court meeting last Tuesday evening and hoped to say a few words about the proposed zoning change on Kentucky Street. Unfortunately the magistrates decided not to arrange for that to occur, so I wish to share briefly what I would have said.

    Zone change would be wrong

EDITOR’S NOTE:This letter was not received in time to publish before Fiscal Court’s meeting about the zone request.

    Kidwell: This is personal

Re: The My Word article written by Mr. Clint Silver (“Collins High School….,” Aug. 24):

First and foremost, let me state that it has never been my practice to respond to such letters. I have always believed that taking such criticism is part of the package with such public jobs. However, I feel I must reply this time as the attack was more personal than professional and involves one of my children.

    Dangerous dogs

I am worried for the safety of my mom. We live on Old Finchville Road, and there are packs of dogs running around our street. My mom lives 2 houses down from me and is scared to even walk to her mailbox.

    Great opportunity

One year ago, I was given the chance to learn more about my community while also giving back. Thanks to the AmeriCorps, I’ve been working as a community disaster coordinator for the American Red Cross in Shelby and Henry counties.
