    Schools need to refocus

I received a phone call and a memo from East Middle School yesterday afternoon saying due to budget cuts they will no longer be providing ESS before school.  After reading all the articles in your paper in regards to Collins High School and the issues that the school is having, I started to wonder if the school board is cutting other schools’ funding in our district because they have to make up for all the mistakes at Collins. I became highly upset and started seeing red.

    What Miller wanted

I had attended the Fiscal Court meeting last Tuesday evening and hoped to say a few words about the proposed zoning change on Kentucky Street. Unfortunately the magistrates decided not to arrange for that to occur, so I wish to share briefly what I would have said.

    Kidwell: This is personal

Re: The My Word article written by Mr. Clint Silver (“Collins High School….,” Aug. 24):

First and foremost, let me state that it has never been my practice to respond to such letters. I have always believed that taking such criticism is part of the package with such public jobs. However, I feel I must reply this time as the attack was more personal than professional and involves one of my children.

    Dangerous dogs

I am worried for the safety of my mom. We live on Old Finchville Road, and there are packs of dogs running around our street. My mom lives 2 houses down from me and is scared to even walk to her mailbox.

    Great opportunity

One year ago, I was given the chance to learn more about my community while also giving back. Thanks to the AmeriCorps, I’ve been working as a community disaster coordinator for the American Red Cross in Shelby and Henry counties.

    A new budget plan

There is plenty of blame to go round for the protracted, embarrassing performance of our elected officials during the recent debt ceiling debate. The kamikaze tactics of the tea party crowd deserve special mention. However, to their credit, these folks did get me to take a new look at the federal bureaucracy and where significant savings might be realized.

A lot to do about nothing and the rest of the story regarding Donnie Ethington.

I first want to say I respect our hometown paper and the great service it provides this community. As a 40-plus-year subscriber, I look forward to reading it three times a week. Recent articles inspire me to write and stand up for Donnie Ethington.
