    Shelby County High School’s SBDM meeting 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
    The Housing Authority of Shelbyville Board of Commissioners meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Housing Authority Administrative/Community Building.
    Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stratton Center.

    Annunciation
    A fish fry is 4:30-7:30 p.m. today, Friday, April 8 and 15. Good food at a good price. All proceeds will go to scholarships and the building fund. Homebound or hospitalized?     Collins High School dance team took part in the KDCO state competition, finishing sixth in state on Hip Hop and Open Categories.   • Life science

    Sara Barbour's seventh-grade Life Science class at Cornerstone Christian Academy dissected baby sharks in science lab.

  • Engineering skills

    E-Night at Martha Layne Collins High School on March 1 was all about engineering and the problem-solving skills under way in the Project Lead The Way class. Teacher Terri Henry had students create skills stations where visitors tested their own thought processes to meet the challenge.

    The East Middle MathCounts team competed at Frankfort Christian Academy in February. The team members are (from left) Brandon Hobbs, Luke Hedges, Jeron Russell, Nolan Hughes, Abby Betts and Emma Saarinen. Emma placed sixth and Nolan placed 10th (out of 80 participants). Emma will compete at the state level in March.

  • Music students honored

    The following students participated in the Kentucky Music Educators' Association Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 5.

    Proficient Soloists: Delaney Boone - Soprano Solo, freshman; Matthew Folsom - Bass Solo, junior

    Distinguished Soloists: Jackie Hobbs - Soprano Solo, sophomore; Taylor Royse - Soprano Solo, sophomore; Katie Vogel - Soprano Solo, freshman.

  • Optimist oratorical contest to be April 13

    The Shelby County Optimist Club is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic "If I Were Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would be..." as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for 2011

    The Optimist Club will judge the local students' speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners. Winners will receive medallions at the club level and the winning speeches will be sent to the district level for the opportunity to win college scholarships.
