  • Post 37 wins 1st 4 ‘just getting started’

    The Shelbyville Post 37 American Legion baseball team is off to a solid start.

    The team won three times over the weekend to improve to 4-0 thus far.

    “We’ve played pretty well in all of them,” Coach Jim Wiley said. “We’re getting started. We’ve got a couple more players to pick up for our team. We’re still trying to fill out our roster.”

  • Plenty of Red in town

    The temperatures were red hot, and so were some of the faces.

    But despite the heat inside Floral Hall at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, the enthusiasm was just as feverish Thursday evening for the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Caravan, the annual meet-and-greet tour in which UofL coaches, athletes and athletic staff members visit with fans.

    Rick Pitino seems to have become a big fan of branding.

    Last October the University of Louisville men’s basketball coach said that his team’s 2010-11 campaign was going to be a “bridge season.”

    This past Thursday night, Pitino rolled out his team’s new selling point.

  • 90th birthday: Agnes Bolin Robinson

    Agnes Bolin Robinson celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends at her home in Shelbyville.

    She was born May 24, 1921 to the late John and Susie Bolin of Shelby County. She was a homemaker and retired from General Electric.

  • Engagement: Brown-Pernell

    Beth and Jeff Brown of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Leslie Brown of Shelbyville, to Jonathan Pernell of Simpsonville. He is the son of David and Shirley Moore of Simpsonville.

    Brown and Pernell are graduates of Shelby County High School and students at the University of Kentucky.

    The wedding will take place at 4 p.m. July 23, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

  • Engagement: Goodlett-Gallagher

    Donna Goodlett of Shelbyville and Ralph Gallagher of Mount Eden announce their engagement.

    Goodlett is the daughter of Rose Barnes of Shelbyville and the late Ernest Goodlett. Gallagher is the son of Mary and Ralph Gallagher Sr. of Mount Eden. They are both Shelby County High School graduates.

    The wedding will take place 4 p.m. July 16, 2011, at Cross Keys Worship Center. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • Engagement: Roberts-Bohannon

    Larry and Debbie Suter of Hatton announce the engagement of their daughter, Angela Marie Roberts of Bagdad, to Brian Thompson Bohannon of Bagdad. He is the son of Judy Bohannon of Bagdad and the late Johnny Bohannon.

    Roberts and Bohannon are both 2001 graduates of Shelby County High School.

    The wedding will take place at July 2, 2011. Invitations will be sent.

    Joyce Elainia King and Kenneth Wayne Nation were married May 21, 2011, at Pleasureville Baptist Church.

    Parents of the bride are General and Darlene Morgan of Frankfort. The groom is the son William and Roselee Nation of Shelbyville.

    Jerry Anderson officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father. Honor attendant was Brittany Herrell of Frankfort, daughter of the bride.

    Best men were Wayne and Austin Nation of Shelbyville, sons of the groom.

  • Shelbyville street party winners

    The winner of the 2011 Downtown Planter contest was Shelbyville Antique Market. During the street party concert on Saturday, winners of gift certificates in a drawing were  Martha Rodgers, first place, Nancy Cook, second place, and Ron Wilson, third place.
