The Shelby County boys' soccer team dominated Henry County, 9-0,in the opening round of the 16th District Tournament at the SCHS athletic complex Monday.

First-half goals from Taylor Shaver, Brandon Shuck, Carlos Carias and Steven Bradley gave the Rockets a comfortable lead, and Shelby never backed down.

The Rockets (6-5-4) led Henry County (1-7-1), 5-0, at the half and added four more goals in the second half.

"I thought we played well," Coach B.J. Andriot said. "We got a chance to play everybody, and the second-string guys played great."

West Middle School got its payback and the Mid Bluegrass Conference Tournament Football Championship with a 6-0 victory over rival East Middle on Saturday at North Oldham.

"We knew we'd have to win it with defense, and every kid stepped up and did exactly what we worked on," West Coach Roy Bailey said. "We got away from the blitz, focused on stopping the run and just played fundamental football."

The Shelby County girls' volleyball team upended Henry County, 2-1 (23-25, 25-28, 25-21), Monday in the 28th District Tournament at Anderson County.

"I could not have asked for a better match from the girls," SCHS Coach Felicia Pace said. "They worked hard and never backed down."

Henry County won the first game, but the Rockets battled back to take games two and three.

"The girls rallied with offense from Leanna Armstrong and serving from Caty Hawkins to win game two," Pace said. "The third game was a great team effort with blocking and digging."
