  • Cornerstone event

    In honor of Clergy Appreciation Month, Cornerstone Christian Academy is having a "Clergy Appreciation Lunch" 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Cornerstone Christian Academy, 3850 Frankfort Road.   • SCHS girls fall to Oldham

    The SCHS girls' soccer team started strong, but Oldham County proved to be too much Tuesday beating Shelby, 5-1 and advancing to the 16th District finals at Spencer County.

    Oldham then beat South Oldham, 2-1, Wednesday for the district title.

    The Rockets started strong in the semifinals but couldn't capitalize on a few chances early.

    "We played really, really well for the first 24 minutes," Coach Joe Turner said. "We were settled down, played smart and had three or four shots. But we just couldn't keep that momentum."

  • Soccer regional begins Monday at Oldham

    The SCHS boys' soccer team found out Thursday night what team it will play in the regional soccer tournament, but Coach B.J. Andriot said he's not worried.

    "I think we'll be fine, no matter who we play," he said. "We'll come out ready on Monday."

    The Rockets (8-6-4) will face the winner of last night's Eastern (10-5-1)/Christian Academy of Louisville (13-4) game on Monday at Oldham County High School, but the game times have not been set.

  • Rockets back on road at Eastern tonight

    The Eagles (5-1) squeaked out a 38-35 victory at Seneca last week but have been on cruise control most of the season. Outside a 49-0 loss at home to Trinity, Eastern has won its other four games by an average of more than 27 points.

    "They're pretty good, and they're fast," SCHS Coach Shipley said. "But our JV team beat them earlier this week, so maybe that's a good omen."

  • Shelby flat in title-game loss to Colonels

    SCHS Coach B.J. Andriot wasn't happy after his team's 2-0 loss to Oldham County in the 16th District championship game Wednesday at the SCHS athletic complex.

    But it wasn't just the loss to Oldham County (17-4-1) that he was upset with; it was how the Rockets (8-6-4) lost.

    "We didn't play very well at all," he said. "We were very, very flat, we looked tired, our first touch was bad, our decision-making was bad, and we were selfish. It was frustrating to watch."

  • Lady Rockets take volleyball district

    Shelby County jumped out quickly but had to rally in the third set to top host Anderson County, 2-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-17), in the 28th District Volleyball Championship match Tuesday.

    The Rockets (13-7) raced out to a 10-0 lead behind Christy Hatter's serve and coasted past the Bearcats (18-12) in the first game.

    A late serving streak gave Anderson County the victory in game two, but the Rockets fought back to take game three behind a balanced attack.

  • All signs point to elections

    Just as falling leaves sprinkle about Shelbyville to signify the arrival of autumn, political campaign signs are beginning to pepper the city, indicating that Election Day is approaching.

    Seven candidates are vying for six spots on the Shelbyville City Council. And with Nov. 4 drawing near, the hopefuls are actively spreading their names and listening to the concerns of the people of Shelbyville.

    Council members are elected on a non-partisan basis every two years, and the Mayor is elected to a 4-year term.

  • Rockets come up just short in district title game

    The Shelby County boys' soccer team battled Oldham County to the wire Wednesday but came up just short.

    Oldham scored late in the first half and again just minutes before the game ended, taking a 2-0 win in the 16th District championship game Wednesday at the SCHS athletic complex.

    The Rockets had several chances throughout the second half, but the Colonels seemed to have an answer each time Shelby County looked to build up a scoring option.
