  • Rockets fall to Oldham County, 48-14

    Oldham County spoiled Shelby County’s Homecoming with a 48-14 victory Friday night at Robert Doyle Stadium.

    The Colonels built a 41-7 halftime lead, scoring on every one of their first-half possessions, on their way to ending their four-game losing streak.

    Oldham County junior quarterback Brett Strnad threw four touchdown passes, three to Cody Oldham, and senior playmaker Kerry Smith tallied two TDs – on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 36-yard reception.

    Unemployment in Shelby

    plummets to 7.7 percent

    The unemployment picture improved dramatically in Shelby County in August, dropping 1.5 percent from July to a 2-year low of 7.7 percent.

  • Kelly in Georgetown court

    Lauren Kelly (right) of Shelbyville, a sophomore communication and media studies major at Georgetown College, was escorted by Bill Ngha of Charlotte, N.C., in the Georgetown College Homecoming court during halftime ceremonies of the Tigers’ football game against Shorter University on Saturday. Kelly is an equine scholar and is involved with the fishing team and student life. She is a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School and is the daughter of Jackie Wilcox of Morehead City, N.C., and Larry Kelly of Miami.

  • Wilson enters dental school

    Courtney Lynn Wilson, a third-year student at the University of Louisville has entered the UofL School of Dentistry, dental hygiene program. Wilson is the daughter of Scott and Judy Wilson and granddaughter of Wayne and Peggy Puckett, all of Shelbyville, and Nancy Wood of Louisville. She is a 2008 graduate of Shelby County High School.

    Five students from Shelby County were among the 1,400 students who received degrees during graduation ceremonies Aug. 13 at Indiana Wesleyan University’s main campus in Marion. Graduating were: Kristin Ball, Simpsonville, B.S.N., nursing; Jennifer Blevins, Shelbyville, B.S., management; Nicole Craig, Shelbyville, B.S.N., nursing; Benjamin Macy, Shelbyville, B.S., business administration; Susan Sanders, Shelbyville, B.S., general studies.
