    No city council meeting

    The Shelbyville City Council meeting scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled. The council’s next scheduled meeting will be July 15 and will be the only meeting this month.

  • Tobacco changes limit businesses

    Tobacco users are finding some new packaging and new restrictions when they stop by their favorite stores these days.

    New federal regulations went into effect on Tuesday that places severe limitations on how tobacco manufacturers can name and advertise some of their products, and some stores also are having to move items to more restricted locations.

  • EARLIER: Loaded Legion lagging

    Shelbyville American Legion Post 37 has a roster boasting 10 returning players from the 2009 state championship team.

    Most of the players are from either Eastern High School (7th Region runner up with 30-plus victories) or Shelby County High School (which won the 8th Region and a trip to the KHSAA State Tournament).

    So Coach Jim Wiley said he is a little disappointed his team isn’t dominating and that it needs serious improvement in hitting and pitching.

  • City's sidewalk crackdown continues

    After some confusion, the City of Shelbyville is again preparing to crack down on cracked sidewalks.

    During Thursday’s City Council meeting, City Engineer/Public Works Director Jennifer Herrell told the council that a second round of letters would be issued to clear up questions.

    “We’ve had so many questions, we just felt like we should send a second round of letters with more specifications,” she said.

    The Shelby County Sheriff's office is investigating a crash that left a man dead on I-64 in Shelby County.
