    Paul J. Andrus, speeding 19 mph over limit, failure to wear seat belts and first-offense failure to maintain required insurance/security -- plead guilty -- insurance monitoring for 12 months and $739 fine and costs.

    Travis D. Brock, speeding 10 mph over limit and no operator's/moped license -- plead guilty -- $258 fine and costs.

  • Simpsonville election made final

    Cary Vowels will hold his peace.

    Two days after Vowels lost a tainted Simpsonville City Commission election by a single one vote, Vowels said he has decided to not ask for a recount.

    During the election on Tuesday, it has been confirmed that an unknown number of non-city residents were given ballots that allowed them to vote in the Simpsonville City Commission race.

    When the results were released that night, Vowels was beat out of the fourth and final seat by fellow incumbent, Dottie Shelburne, 440-439.

    A year later, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, honoring those who had served in World War I.

  • Weekend celebration taking shape

    There are now more than 70 booths signed up for this year's Celebration of Lights in downtown Shelbyville, which will run 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

    Traffic will be blocked off at 8th Street and diverted to Henry Clay Street or over to Washington Street. Streets will be blocked for setup at 4 p.m.

  • All things considered, pretty smooth

    Jack Trumbo didn't get his nap.

    Trumbo, a long-time Simpsonville election official, said during some elections he is able to go up in the bleachers at the community center and doze for a while. Not this year.

    By 6 a.m., voters were lined outside the door to vote in one of two Simpsonville precincts. By just after 9 a.m., almost a third of the voters in the two precincts had cast ballots, according to Marc Rucker, a member of the county's board of elections who was traveling from precinct to precinct helping to solve problems.

  • Local man shot after Halloween party

    A Shelbyville man is in still in recovery after being shot early Sunday during an altercation that followed a Halloween party.

    The Shelby County Sheriff's office said Jason Coulter,33, was shot twice outside the house at 850 Bass Lane. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Hospital.

    Deputies arrested Angus Walker, 24, on charges of assault in the first degree and tampering with physical evidence.

  • Montell beats out Young for house seat

    It wasn't a landslide, but the Republican candidate, the incumbent Brad Montell, has comfortably edged out Democratic opponent Bill Young for the second time.

    Montell earned the right to serve Kentucky’s house district 58 seat for a fourth term with 57.4 percent of the vote in Shelby and Spencer counties to Young’s 42.6 percent. The race was slightly closer in Shelby County (55-44).

    Montell, 51, said he was pleased when the results were finally in.

  • Local man sustains multiple injuries in accident

    A Shelbyville man was injured Monday afternoon when he ran off the road in a curve on Old Finchville Road, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

    Eddy Allen, 38, is in stable condition Tuesday at the University of Louisville, where he was airlifted after the crash.

    According to sheriff's deputy Gerald Woldrigde, speed was a factor in the crash.

    Witnesses to the accident were shaken as they recalled what happened.
