  • Statewide tornado drill canceled

    The statewide tornado drill that had been scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

    The decision comes in light of the devastating and deadly weather that struck Kentucky on Friday.

    No new date for the drill has been announced.

    Still more help coming in
    war against synthetic drugs
    Shelby and other counties may soon get state help in their efforts to crack down on synthetic drugs.
    Shelby County Fiscal Court last week passed on first reading a new ordinance to ban such drugs, and Spencer and Anderson counties have similar legislation. And as of Wednesday, the House of Representatives was moving ahead to try to get a law in place to do just that.
    In fact, The Herald-Leader reported that two bills to fight drugs won approval from the House Judiciary Committee:

    The first- and second-grade teachers at Southside Elementary held a “Math Night” for their families to learn a about strategies they are using at school and how they can help students at home to reach their “Big Goal.”

    Jones graduates from KSU
    Tracy B. Jones graduated cum laude from Kentucky State University with a bachelor of arts in business administration, with a specialization in Accounting.  Jones is a 2008 graduate of Shelby County High School, the daughter of Cecil and Jody Jones and the granddaughter of Rosa Jones all of Simpsonville.

    Shelby County High School’s academic team won the district competition and will compete in the regional competition.
