World champions and potential future stars displayed their talents Saturday on the closing night of the 21st Shelbyville Horse Show as the annual extravaganza wrapped up its 4-day run at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.
Thousands of patrons turned out on a beautiful evening highlighted by winning performances from at least eight horses who had claimed titles at past world championship events in Louisville.
When you have two decades to practice, putting on a combination quality horse show and prominent community event becomes a bit like second nature.
But as learned as they are, the organizers of the annual Shelbyville Horse Show still don’t leave anything to chance.
The 21st annual festival kicks off today with the first of four consecutive evening sessions, blending equine show performances with entertainment offerings that historically attract thousands of spectators to the fairgrounds.
Tucked away in the silver vault at Wakefield-Scearce, they come out just once a year.
Shuttled to the Shelby County Fair Grounds, the 20 Shelbyville Horse Show perpetual trophies are put on display for one night, handed to their respective winners and then quickly taken back to the vault and locked away until their chance to shine the next year.
