Jacinta Newsome, a teacher at Shelby County High School, has produced a video to reflect on the history of the 50-year-old school and to motivate for the next generation of learners and athletes. There are still-life photos from the 1961 Rocket yearbook as well as movie clips of current staff members in action. Delegation from Collins High School received the outstanding new delegation award at KYA. Lindy Bush of Collins is president of the premiere senate, and Jesse Harrod of Collins is newly elected president of the senate for 2011 KYA. The Shelby County Board of Education jumped into the first meeting of the new year with a very aggressive agenda.

After nominating Sam Hinkle as the new board chair and Doug Butler as the vice chair, the board heard four staff reports, got its first look at the next budget and honored several district employees.

Leading the way on the staff reports were big improvements in On Demand Writing test scores and Title III Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAO or improvement with Limited English Proficiency, LEP, students).

Heritage Preschool performed for parents at their Preschool Ring and Sing. Students made their own costumes at school. Students sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." They performed The Gingerbread Man. Afterward, families decorated sugar cookies.
