  • Students improving, MAP shows

    Halfway through the school year, most students in Shelby County are performing at grade level in reading and math.

    That’s what school officials reported to the Shelby County Board of Education at Thursday’s meeting, based on the winter segment of the Measured Academic Progress tests students take three times each year.

  • Construction team at SCHS builds a winning concept

    When they begin the downstairs renovation at Shelby County High School, they may want to look in-house for a few ideas.

    The Rocket Construction team – comprised of B.J. Tingle, John Tingle, Dustin Casey, David Lee and Brandon Seaman – put together a plan and presentation for building a National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standards, silver-level home and earned third place in the Residential Construction Management Competition hosted by the NAHB.

  • Test tube students

    Caytie Page Burgin assists her biomedical students at Shelby County High School in an experiment Jan 31. The Project Lead The Way class took crushed-up food items, placed them in glass test tubes and applied various chemicals by eye-droppers to see whether the foods contained protein, glucose, starch or lipids.

  • Backpack project

    Members of the Shelby County High School National Honor Society celebrated  after their successful food drive for the Backpack Project. The NHS challenged each first block class at the school to bring in food items for the Backpack Project. More than 400 food items were donated. Jeffrey Bracken's ninth-grade Honors Social Studies class won the challenge and was treated to a Krispy Kreme doughnut party provided by the officers of the NHS.

  • Campus: Feb. 18, 2011

    Shelby native is WKU president's scholar
    Emily R. Osbourne achieved the designation of president's scholar at Western Kentucky University for the fall 2010 semester. To be selected for this honor, students must compile an academic standing of 3.8 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. She is the daughter of Marty and Tina Osbourne of Waddy.
