    After a successful summer school expansion that focused on literacy in first- and third-grade students last year, Shelby County Superintendent James Neihof will ask the Shelby County Board of Education to help fund an even bigger undertaking at Thursday's 7 p.m. meeting at Southside Elementary.

  • Troop 63 announces 2 Eagle Scouts

    Boy Scout troop 63 at the Finchville Ruritan Club announced two new Eagle Scouts, James Nicholas Henderson and William Reid Shober.

    Henderson, son of the late James Henderson and Ramona Henderson, is a senior at Shelby County High School. For his eagle project, he constructed duck houses to be placed at Red Orchard Park.

    Shober, son of Robert Shober and Gayle R. Mayhugh, is a junior at Collins High School. His project consisted of replacing the landscape around the Stratton Community Center.

    That’s what school officials reported to the Shelby County Board of Education at Thursday’s meeting, based on the winter segment of the Measured Academic Progress tests students take three times each year.

  • Construction team at SCHS builds a winning concept

    When they begin the downstairs renovation at Shelby County High School, they may want to look in-house for a few ideas.

    The Rocket Construction team – comprised of B.J. Tingle, John Tingle, Dustin Casey, David Lee and Brandon Seaman – put together a plan and presentation for building a National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standards, silver-level home and earned third place in the Residential Construction Management Competition hosted by the NAHB.
