  • Shelby County Grand Jury Indictments Feb. 1, 2012

    Tyrann M. Harris was indicted for being a persistent felony offender.

    James Denton, 23, of 1653 Juniper Drive, was indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, menacing, alcohol intoxication in a public place and first-degree disorderly conduct.

    Jesse A. Loving, 22, of 7609 Hempridge Road was indicted for tampering with a prisoner monitoring device and being a persistent felony offender.

    District court

    The following cases were heard by Judge Matthew Eckert:

    Marcella Jackson, theft by unlawful taking/shoplifting – plead guilty – 180-day sentence, serve 8 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years and $143 costs.

    Mohamad Kadah, careless driving and first-offense DUI – plead guilty – operator's license suspended for 30 days and $828 fine and costs and $400 to SCDIF.

    Larry D. Moscoe, possession of marijuana – diversion completed – dismissed.

  • Beating victim is awake, responsive but can't speak

    An assault victim who miraculously showed signs of beginning to wake up on Christmas Day after nearly two months in a coma has continued to show some slight progress, her family says.

    “She is awake now, that is, she watches us with her eyes and responds to commands, like when we ask her to wiggle her toes,” said Krissi Tipton, the victim’s aunt.

    Doctors at the University of Louisville, where Denisse Escareno had lain in a coma since being viciously beaten Nov. 5, had told the family just before Christmas that they feared she was brain dead.

    DUI

     

    Nathaniel A. Harris, 28, of 4944 Winding Springs Circle in Louisville was arrested Dec. 24 on Midland Trail and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense.

    Joshua J. McAlpin, 33, of 3909 S. 3rd St. in Louisville was arrested Dec. 25 on I-64 and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and failure to report a traffic accident.

  • Man pleads not guilty to sex-abuse charges

    A Louisville man charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a child pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on Monday in Shelby County Circuit Court.

    Jose A. Rodriguez, 23, of Louisville, who was indicted in December, was given a court date of March 19 for pretrial conference.

    Rodriguez was indicted Dec. 21 by a Shelby County Grand Jury for first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old.

    His case was assigned to public defender Ashley Bailey.

    The indictment report said that the offense happened in 2007 in Shelby County.

    Burglary

     

    Kevin Bruce, 18, of 315 Tower Drive was arrested Jan. 18 at 110 Boone Station Road and charged with third-degree burglary.

    John Greer, 26, of 1579 Robin Road was arrested Jan. 13 at that address and charged with burglary.

    Troy L. Roseberry, 37, of 432 Lincoln Station Drive in Simpsonville was arrested Jan. 17 at 80 Frankfort Road and charged with second-degree burglary and domestic abuse.

    Michael Southerland, 28, of 1730 Village Lane was arrested Jan. 17 on Jail Hill Road and charged with second-degree burglary.

    Chelsi L. Coghill, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess – diversion completed – dismissed.

    DUI

    David Shouse, 47, of 2181 Waddy Road was arrested Dec. 14 on Hickory Ridge Road and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs under aggravating circumstances, third offense, operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license and failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense.

    Steven S. Finkelstein, 49, of 1503 Bellingham Court in Louisville was arrested Dec. 18 on I-64 and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense.
