  • Trial date set for murder suspect

    Marcus Goldsmith, charged with murder and other offenses in the March 16 stabbing death of Keith Jackson, will get his day in court.

    After delaying several times, Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Charles Hickman set Sept. 3 as the trial date for Goldsmith, with pretrial on Aug. 19.

    Goldsmith is charged with murder, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault–domestic violence and tampering with physical evidence following the stabbing death of Jackson at his apartment at 901 Main St. in Shelbyville.

    Goldsmith has pleaded not guilty.

  • Facebook complaint leads to arrest of sex offender

    A Shelby County man who is a convicted sex offender has been arrested and charged with several offenses, one of them a felony, relating to distributing obscene matter to a minor using social media. 

    Anthony T. Bradford, 41, was arrested Monday and charged with being aregistered sex offender who has been prohibited from using social-networking Web site, Internet messaging or chat room programs used by minors;, distributing obscene matter to a minor, both misdemeanors, and prohibited use of electronic communication to procure a minor, a Class D felony.

  • Jury trial set for Poole in 2013

    A jury trial has been scheduled for next spring for Linda Poole, a Bagdad woman who was indicted in February for embezzling more than $110,000 from her employer.

    At her disposition hearing in Shelby Circuit Court on Tuesday, Poole was given a date of April 10 for a jury trial and a pretrial date of March 18.

    Frequently, any plea bargains that may arise are accepted on pretrial dates.

  • Woman jailed in Breeden murder is released

    TAYLORSVILLE – Susan Jean King, the Mount Eden woman who served time for the 1998 murder of a Shelbyville man, was released from prison two weeks ago, and her attorneys have filed an appeal in an effort to get a new trial.

    King, 52, was indicted on murder charges for the death of Kyle “Deanie” Breeden in April 2007. Two months after the initial indictment, a grand jury also charged King with tampering with physical evidence.

  • EARLIER: Williams family sues city of Shelbyville, its police department

    Nearly a year after their son was shot and killed by a Shelbyville Police officer, the family of Trey F. Williams has filed a wrongful death suit against the city of Shelbyville and the officers involved in his death.

    The suit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Western District, in Louisville, names the city of Shelbyville, police officers Suzanna Wade Marcum, Frank Willoughby and Police Chief Robert A. Schutte.

  • Duckett murder gets a new look

    On the fourth anniversary of the death of James Duckett, his murder case is undergoing a new surge of investigation, detectives say.

    Since the morning of Nov. 9, 2008, when Katherine Nichols discovered her brother brutally slain in a horrific execution-style murder at his home on Rockbridge Road, she has not given up hope that his killer will be brought to justice, she said.

    Vanessa Bravo, 28, of 423 Sawmill Road in West Haven, Conn., was indicted for third-degree rape.

    Trenton R. Hensley, violation of Kentucky E.P.O./D.V.O – guilty – 20-day sentence and $154 costs.

    David A. Linson, third-degree criminal trespassing, two charges of third-degree criminal mischief and carrying a concealed deadly weapon – guilty – 6-month sentence, serve 15 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years, restitution and $254 fine and costs.

    Yovany Martinez, no operator's/moped license and first-offense failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security – pleaded guilty – 30-day sentence conditionally discharged for 2 years and $743 fine and costs.

    William Gordon, fourth-degree domestic violence minor injury and resisting arrest – pleaded guilty – 90-day sentence, serve 20 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years and $154 costs.
