James Johnson, a correctional officer with the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley, who was charged with sexual abuse of inmates last summer, was scheduled to appear in Shelby Circuit Court on Monday for a final pretrial conference before his case goes to trial next month, but had that date changed to March 4.  

Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Melanie Carroll had said last fall that she expected Johnson to make a plea agreement with her office, but that arrangement never materialized.

Customers got a big shock at about 6 a.m. Thursday when a pick up truck jumped a curb at It’s Convenient on Main Street and ran into the front of the store so hard that the impact broke the front window and caved in the bricks, right where the cashier checks out customers.

“It came just barreling right through the parking lot and, bam, right into the building,” store owner Ruth Hodge said.

TAYLORSVILLE-A Mount Eden man accused of shooting at and pistol-whipping his girlfriend last March  has been arraigned in Spencer Circuit Court.

Benjamin W. Mobley, 59, of the 2100 block of Murphy Lane, was indicted in early December 2012 on charges of criminal attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The Shelbyville Police Department became two officers stronger on Friday, when its newest officers  were sworn in by Shelby Circuit Judge Donna Dutton.

Brandon Pennington, 28, and Joshua Housely, 29, took the oath of office only a couple of  hours after graduating from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Police Academy in Richmond.

The officers left after the ceremony for the Shelbyville PD, and Dutton swore them in shortly before 3 p.m.
