    District court

    The following cases were heard by Judge Matthew K. Eckert:

    Melody L. Abell, first-offense DUI – pleaded guilty – operator's license suspended for 30 days and $728 fine and costs.

  • Three injured in accident on Boones Station

    Three people were taken to Jewish Hospital with minor injuries resulting from a two-car collision at the intersection of Boone Station Road and KY 43.

    Names of those involved were not immediately available, and the details of the crash are unknown.

    Basically, a Firebird and an SUV collided at the intersection shortly after 3 p.m., resulting in severe damage to both vehicles, and leaving the SUV flipped on its top.

  • Johnson’s final court date before trial rescheduled

    James Johnson, a correctional officer with the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley, who was charged with sexual abuse of inmates last summer, was scheduled to appear in Shelby Circuit Court on Monday for a final pretrial conference before his case goes to trial next month, but had that date changed to March 4.  

    Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Melanie Carroll had said last fall that she expected Johnson to make a plea agreement with her office, but that arrangement never materialized.

  • Some broken glass for breakfast at Shelby store

    Customers got a big shock at about 6 a.m. Thursday when a pick up truck jumped a curb at It’s Convenient on Main Street and ran into the front of the store so hard that the impact broke the front window and caved in the bricks, right where the cashier checks out customers.

    “It came just barreling right through the parking lot and, bam, right into the building,” store owner Ruth Hodge said.

  • Truck fire causes hours, miles of traffic on I-64

    The westbound lanes of I-64 from Waddy to Shelbyville were shut down from dawn to early afternoon Thursday when a tractor-trailer caught fire after striking a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.

  • Mount Eden man pleads not guilty in ‘pistol-whip’

    TAYLORSVILLE-A Mount Eden man accused of shooting at and pistol-whipping his girlfriend last March  has been arraigned in Spencer Circuit Court.

    Benjamin W. Mobley, 59, of the 2100 block of Murphy Lane, was indicted in early December 2012 on charges of criminal attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.

    The following cases were heard by Judge David F. Hayse:

    Tarenia D. Mobley, failure to wear seat belts and first-offense failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security – pleaded guilty – $668 fine and costs.

  • Shelbyville PD gets 2 new officers

    The Shelbyville Police Department became two officers stronger on Friday, when its newest officers  were sworn in by Shelby Circuit Judge Donna Dutton.

    Brandon Pennington, 28, and Joshua Housely, 29, took the oath of office only a couple of  hours after graduating from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Police Academy in Richmond.

    The officers left after the ceremony for the Shelbyville PD, and Dutton swore them in shortly before 3 p.m.

  • No response yet in amputation suit

    A surgeon from Shelbyville sued in November by a patient has not yet filed a response to those charges.

    Randall Phillips of Campbellsville filed suit Nov. 9 in Shelby County Circuit Court against Dr. Christopher J. Theuer, Surgical Associates PSC of Shelbyville and Louisville Surgical Associates, alleging that Theuer mistakenly amputated body parts during a hernia procedure.
