  • Police to businesses: Watch for counterfeits

    Is there a counterfeit money ring in Shelbyville?

    Police say no but add that bills are circulating in the area, which is not an uncommon problem in most communities the size of Shelby County.

    Shelbyville Police Det. Jessie Paulley said that he has seen counterfeit money in Shelby during the past year.

    “We have had three counterfeit bills in the last six to eight months,” he said.

    That’s not counting six counterfeit $100 bills found recently in the coat of a man arrested for robbery and assault, Paulley said.

  • Prison guard’s trial postponed

    The trial of James Johnson, a correctional officer with the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley charged with sexual abuse of inmates last summer, was postponded Wednesday in Shelby County Circuit Court.

    Johnson  has been rescheduled for a status hearing on April 15.

    Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Melanie Carroll had said last fall that she expected Johnson to make a plea agreement with her office, but that arrangement never materialized.

  • Shelbyville Police Reports March 29, 2013

    DUI

    Sarah Whitney, 19, of 115 Harrow Court was arrested March 6 at 1605 Juniper Drive and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence or drugs or alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report a traffic accident.

    Calvin Cook, 45, of 800 Main St. was arrested March 16 and charged with DUI, first offense, leaving the scene of an accident and second-degree wanton endangerment.

  • Man arrested in Simpsonville shooting

    A Shelbyville man wanted in connection with a shooting last summer has been arrested after eluding several police agencies and even federal marshals.
    James Anthony Watkins, 41, was arrested Friday after he was identified in August as a suspect in the shooting of an Hispanic man, who was shot twice in the stomach at an apartment complex in Simpsonville.

    Watkins is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.

    Nancy L. Boyd, operating on suspended/revoked operator's license and second-offense failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance – pleaded guilty – 60-day sentence, serve 3 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years and $1,143 fine and costs.

  • Shelbyville PD seeks man for robbery, assault of woman

    Shelbyville Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who is wanted in connection with the beating and robbery March 12 of a woman in the parking lot of Berea Summit apartments.

    Geremiah Woods, 21, is wanted for first-degree robbery and first-degree assault of Amy E. Douglas of Shelbyville.

    Shelbyville Police said that Woods, Lamont S. Washington, 27, and Ciereron J. Thompson, 18, are accused of robbing and assaulting Douglas with handguns as she sat in her vehicle in the parking lot of the complex at 116 Berea Street.

  • Shelby County Grand Jury Indictments

    Takarra A. Bray, 27, of 2630 Palmland Drive in Columbia, S.C., was indicted on two counts of making false statements/misrepresentations in order to receive public assistance benefits.

    Samantha Holt, 22, of 703 Greenwood Court was indicted for second-degree criminal abuse.

  • Shelby County Sheriff's Reports March 20, 2013

    DUI

    Alissa Ulfry, 30, of 1447 La Grange Road was arrested Jan. 9 on Long Run Road and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs under aggravating circumstances and first-degree wanton endangerment.

     

    Theft

    Jacob C. Browning, 21, of 9737 Mount Eden Road in Waddy was arrested Dec. 30 at 4484 Mount Eden Road and charged with receiving stolen property and third-degree criminal trespass.
