  • Prison employee arrested for sexually abusing inmate

    A corrections officer at the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley has been arrested on sex abuse and related charges of an inmate, police say.

    Kentucky State Police spokesperson Bernice Napier said Demar I. Jones, 30, of Lexington, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree official misconduct.

    The arrest came after an investigation into the matter, said Napier.

  • Police alert public to missing juvenile

    Police are asking the public for information on the whereabouts of a runaway teen.

    Kaitlyn Michelle Ewing, 15, is a juvenile from Shelby County that has left home and is believed to be traveling or staying with Alexander Pineda, according to officials from the Shelby County Sheriff’s office. They may be trying to leave the area, officers say.

    Anyone who sees either of them is asked to call 911.

  • Shelby County Sheriff Warrants

    Marcia L. Payne, 28, of 120 Chrysalis Court in Lexington was arrested March 7 at 401 Main St. on a Jessamine County warrant for an unstated charge.

    Christine R. Edlin, 32, of 6707 Triangle Drive in Louisville was served March 8 at the Shelby County Detention Center with a Jefferson County warrant for operating on a suspended license, no registration plates and failure of owner to maintain required insurance.

    Robert Nelson, 24, of Shelbyville was arrested March 7 at 401 Main St. on a Shelby County warrant for an unstated charge.

  • Shelby County Grand Jury Indictments

    Michael Vincent Belskis, 43, of 1002 S. Brook St. in Louisville was indicted for theft by deception under $10,000.

    Thomas G. Oday, 51, Thomas G. Oday Jr., 19, Patricia L. Oday, 21, and Theresa C. Oday, 21, all of 1629 Fisherville Road in Finchville, were indicted for theft by unlawful taking, $500 or more but less than $10,000, complicity and theft by unlawful taking.

  • Man charged in jail fight gets 2 years for assault

    A former Shelby County Detention Center inmate was given a 2-year sentence in Shelby Circuit Court Monday for second-degree assault in connection with a physical altercation with another inmate.

    Ciereon Thompson, 21, had originally been charged with first-degree assault when the fight occurred in March 2014, a Class B felony, which carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison.

    Makayla B. Quintero, 21, of 103 Lanter Ave. was arrested March 10 on Frankfort Road and charged with careless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, improper equipment and failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance, first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree promoting contraband.

    Ruben J. Warr, 24, of 11618 Summit Crest Apartments, No. 202, in Louisville was arrested March 23 on I-64 and charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and speeding.
