  • Car hit by semi-truck

    Tragedy was nearly averted when a trailer truck struck a car  that was stopped  in the left lane of Interstate 64 with the engine running, police said.

    The incident happened on March 6 as officers were working an accident on I-64 eastbound at the 36-mile marker just after 5:30 a.m. At that time, a truck driver stopped and told Shelbyville Police Officer Bruce Gentry that a car was stopped on the interstate nearby.

    Daryll M. Craft, 33, of 48 Madie Lane in Shelbyville was arrested  March 14 at 20 Fairway Crossing and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants under aggravating circumstances, first offense.

  • New officer brings PD up to full force

    Shelbyville's finest is one more officer strong as of Wednesday, when David Aikin of Louisville joined the force.

    Aikin has spent the past 15 years as a police officer in Los Angeles, where he did everything from bike and beach patrol to detective work.

    He went to the LAPD straight from the military police after a 12-year Naval career, and said he is now looking forward to living and working back in his home state.

    DUI  

    Lee J. Scriber, 38, of 506 Hunting Hills Drive in Shelbyville was arrested March 9 behind 1700 Midland Trail and charged with DUI, first offense.

    Daniel S. Palmer, 31, of 380 Kings Highway in Waddy, was arrested March 6 on I-64 East at the 35 mile marker and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence under aggravating circumstances, possession of marijuana, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle and first-degree wanton endangerment.

    James L. Cox of 9816 West Avenue in Louisville was indicted for second-degree burglary complicity, theft by unlawful taking complicity, possession of burglar's tools complicity, third-degree criminal mischief complicity and careless driving.
