  • Woman arrested in robbery of pizza delivery man

    Another person has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Pizza Hut delivery driver, which occurred March 30.

    Angelic Burkhead, 24, of 408 Lynne Acres, was arrested March 31 and incurred the same charge as the three men who are accused of beating a Pizza Hut delivery man and taking his money and pizzas.

  • Officers use simulator to train in use of deadly force

    Sheriff's Deputy Riley Kennedy saved two innocent bystanders from being gunned down last week, disarmed a knife-wielding man in the courtroom and took down a gunman who was holding a gun on his partner. It was all in a day's work, even if it was all in simulation.

    Those scenarios were just a few of the 400 possible situations that officers did their best to overcome in simulation last week.

  • EARLIER: Pizza delivery man robbed

    A Pizza Hut delivery driver was attacked and beaten as he was delivering a pizza to an apartment, police say.

    Brandon H. Manica, 20, Barrica Spencer, 20, and Jason C. Hence, 24, all of Shelbyville, were arrested and charged with second-degree strong-arm robbery Wednesday night.

    A Shelbyville police reports says the three phoned Pizza Hut and ordered a pizza to be delivered to 401 Lynne Acres at about 9:30 p.m.

  • Shelbyville Police reports: April 9, 2010

    Driving under the influence

     

    Darrell D. Perry, 40, of 318 Memorial Drive in Shelbyville was arrested April 2 at Kinser and 9th streets and charged with DUI, disregarding a stop sign and operating an ATV on the roadway.

    Paul L. Dowell, 21, of 506 Carnell Place in Louisville was arrested April 5 at I-64 eastbound at Exit 35 and charged with DUI, first offense.

  • Shelbyville man arrested after taking juvenile girl to Florida

    A Shelbyville man has been arrested in Florida and charged with taking an under-aged girl down there without her parent’s permission, as well as taking his grandmother’s car without her permission.

    Eric A. Shelburne, 28, of 156 Longview Drive, is charged with custodial interference, a Class D felony and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

  • Bank robber still at large

    Police said Tuesday they are still searching for a man who robbed a branch of Commonwealth Bank just after it opened Thursday morning.

    "Our investigation is continuing, but he is still at large at this time," said Maj. D. Goodwin of the Shelbyville Police Department.

    The still unidentified man approached a teller in the lobby of the bank on Mount Eden Road, implied he had a weapon, and demanded cash, police said.

  • A year later, teen's shooter still at large

    A year has passed, and justice is ever more fleeting for the family of Joel Mena.

    On Friday night, flowers and flickering candles encircled a tree on College Street in commemoration of the spot where a year ago Mena, 17, was gunned down in a dispute about a girl.

    "She [the girl] told the other man that she wanted to go back to Joe, that she didn't want to be with him anymore because he was older than her and had a pregnant wife," said Mena's mother, Loretta Mena. "And he told her if he couldn't have her, then nobody would."

  • Growth of meth labs not a problem in Shelby

    A report by Kentucky State Police released Friday said 2009 methamphetamine labs in the state are increasing at alarming rates.

    But in Shelby County there does not seem to have much problem in this area, law enforcement officers said.

    Maj. D. Goodwin with the Shelbyville Police said that although he couldn't answer for the sheriff's office, meth has not been a big problem in the city.

    Assault

     

    Ashton Burns, 20, of 125 Baker Drive, apt. 125, in Shelbyville was arrested March 25 at that address and charged with fourth-degree domestic assault.

    Keith O. Marshall, 28, of 65 Juniper Drive in Shelbyville was arrested March 24 at that address and charged with fourth-degree domestic assault with minor injury.

    Driving under the influence

    Lawrence C. Glynn, 44, of 5759 Buck Creek Road in Finchville  was arrested March 21 at 20 Fairway Crossing North and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants under aggravating circumstances, first offense, reckless driving and menacing.

    John Doe, age unknown, of Shelbyville was arrested March 20 at Midland Boulevard and Midland Trail and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and no operator's license.
