  • Want to avoid an auto break-in? Keep your car locked

    Although law-enforcement officials report crime is down in general, car break-ins continue to proliferate all around the city and county.

    You don't have to study criminal justice to have noticed that in the last year The Sentinel-News has published three major articles about such break-ns. And they continue.

    Two Crime Stopper reports about car break-ins were published Wednesday, highlighting crimes from Fairway Crossing, Abingdon Circle and Morning Glory.

  • Thieves make off with thousands

    Thieves took an area convenience store for thousands of dollars on Wednesday, police say.

    Maj. Danny Goodwin with the Shelbyville Police Department said five or six Hispanic males were involved in the scheme.

    The group cashed several fake payroll checks at the Convenient Food Mart on U.S. 60, checks that police say were made out to look like they came from area businesses.

    They looked real, but they had the wrong date and some misspellings as well. The suspects also used fake I.D.s to cash them.

    DUI

    Rene Benito Garcia, 27, of Shelbyville, was arrested April 2 on Old Mount Eden Road and charged with DUI, no operator’s license, expired registration and no insurance.

    Buddy C. Stanley, 45, of Shelbyville, was arrested April 3 at 10th and Washington Streets and charged with DUI, improper equipment, no license in possession and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

    Shelby County Grand Jury Indictments

    Salomon Caballero Gomez of Shelbyville was indicted for murder.

    Christopher L. Coulter of Shelbyville was indicted for second-degree burglary and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

    Angela M. Winstead of Shelbyville was indicted for flagrant nonsupport.

    David Chesser of Taylorsville was charged by the Shelby Circuit Court with flagrant nonsupport.

    Aaron Bruner, 35, of Waddy, was arrested April 12 on 7th Street and charged with DUI, first offense.

    Alcohol Intoxication

    Jeffrey Popp, 34, of Shelbyville, was arrested April 9 at Village Plaza and charged with alcohol intoxication and disorderly conduct.

    Moses Lopez, 29, of Shelbyville,  was arrested April 14 at 8th and Main streets and charged with alcohol intoxication.

  • Crime stoppers ask for info on skid loader theft

    A John Deere 250 skip loader has been stolen from the Todds Point area.

    The theft occurred between March 19 and April 8. The owner cannot narrow the time frame down more than that because he was on vacation.

    The loader was taken from the owner's barn. The loader has several distinguishing features.

    It has between 400 and 500 hours on it and is a 2001 model in very good condition. The headliner is falling out, and the right front tire has a bad gash in it. A hydraulic hose has been wrapped with garden hose.

Bracey of Shelbyville was indicted for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), complicity, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, complicity, trafficking in marijuana, complicity, second-degree illegal possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), and second-degree persistent felony offender.

  • Crime stoppers seeks information about graffit, break-in

    Crime Stoppers is asking for help in solving two vandalism-type crimes that happened last week.

    The first occurred between 11 p.m on Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday in the 40 block of Plantation Drive.

    In that incident, someone used white spray paint to write offensive words and symbols on a brick house.

    Shelbyville Police Reports

    Steven D. Lear, 29, of Shelbyville was arrested Saturday on Midland Boulevard and charged with first-degree assault and alcohol intoxication.

    Gilda Ravelo, 55, of Louisville was arrested Tuesday at Boone Station Kroger and charged with theft by unlawful talking under $300.

    Edward D. Farmer, 18, of Shelbyville was arrested Tuesday on Main Street and charged with receiving stolen property over $300.
