Because of the quick response time qetting to a fire, Simpsonville firefighters were able to save a barn on Scott Station Road, Fire Chief Walter Jones said.

“We did a very good job getting there in a timely manner, and were able to confine the fire to an 8 X 8 foot corner of the barn,” he said. “Timing was everything on saving this barn.”

The fire was called in at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the residence of Ralph Peed at 1205 Scott Station Road, Jones said.

The state fire marshal is looking into the cause of a house fire that destroyed a home in Mount Eden Sunday night, said Fire Chief Doug Herndon.

“It was a vacant house, so at least no residents were injured, although we did have a firefighter with a minor injury, but he is OK now,” he said.

Herndon said the call came in at about 2 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene, the house was already totally engulfed by flames.

“It wasn’t safe for us to go inside, so we had to fight the fire from the outside only,” he said.

The following cases were heard by Judge Linda Armstrong:

Teresa M. Brown, theft by unlawful taking/shoplifting under $300 -- plead guilty -- 150-day sentence conditionally discharged for two years and $144 costs.

Stacie L. Hope, theft by deception under $300 -- plead guilty -- $174 costs.

William Seay III, failure of parent/custodian to send child to school -- plead guilty -- $244 fine and costs.

Arthur Grigsby, non support -- plead guilty -- 12-month sentence conditionally discharged for two years and $144 costs.

Elian Hernandez Morales, 20, of Louisville, was arrested April 16 on Midland Trail and charged with DUI and no operator's license.

Paul Greenwell III of Shelbyville, was arrested April 19 at 8th and Henry Clay streets on warrants from Bullitt and Jefferson counties and charged with no insurance.

Higneo Manquez, 45, of Shelbyville, was arrested April 16 on 3rd Street and charged with alcohol intoxication and assault.

James V. Denton, 20, of Shelbville, was arrested April 15 in Shelbyville on a warrant from another agency.
