  • Traffic checkpoints coming up

    Motorists will soon be seeing more traffic safety checkpoints being conducted by Kentucky State Police.

    Troop Ron Turley with KSP media relations said the locations for these safety checkpoints are determined by need. KSP conducted one such checkpoint on U.S. 60 at Fields Lane, east of Simpsonville, on Tuesday night. No statistics were available for that evening.

    “We generally pick high accident areas, because this is where the need is most urgent,” he said.

  • Crime Stoppers seek info on burglary

    The public is asked to call in with any information anyone has about a burglary that happened on Monday morning.

    Between midnight and 7:30 a.m., the Dollar General Store, located at 21 Mount Tabor Court, was burglarized, police say.

    Someone cut a hole through an exterior wall, and once inside, the intruder damaged another wall, alarm system components, a safe and computer equipment.

    Items were moved, but it appears that nothing was removed from the business. The intruder(s) caused nearly $3,000 in damage to the business.

  • Newspaper vending machine stolen

    Crime Stoppers is looking for information about a theft that happened sometime between the early morning hours of May 24 and May 25.

    At that time, someone took a Courier-Journal vending machine that was located in front of the Save-A-Lot store at 22 Village Plaza.

    The box is valued at more than $300 and contained about $10 cash.

  • Money stolen from concession stand at country club

    Money stolen from concession stand at country club

    On Memorial Day weekend some money was stolen from the concession stand at Shelbyville Country Club.

    The police report states that $100 was taken on Sunday, May 24, and has not been recovered.

    No suspects have been identified and no arrests have yet been made in the case, which was reported by Dan Iceman at the Country Club.

  • EARLIER: Arson suspected in house fire

    Fire officials suspect arson in a fire on Jail Hill Road that destroyed a home in the predawn hours Wednesday morning, Shelby County Fire Chief Bobby Cowherd said.

    "We sent an arson dog in last night, and he picked up some evidence that was suspicious," Cowherd said.

    The fire is being investigated by Maj. Andy White of the Shelby County Fire Department and Senior Deputy Rob Goodwin of the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

  • Six cars torched at repair shop

    Crime Stoppers is appealing to the public for any information anyone has about six cars that were torched Thursday night at a local auto repair business.

    Shelby County Detective Jason Rice said the vehicles, which were awaiting repair, were parked on the lot of Bailey's Service Center on Hill 'n' Dale Drive behind Walmart when the vandalism occurred.

  • No local Memorial Day traffic fatalities

    Nobody was killed in traffic accidents over the Memorial Day weekend in Kentucky State Police’s Post 12 area, which includes Shelby, Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Scott, Spencer and Woodford counties.

    However, seven fatalities occurred statewide.

    Also, KSP reports that troopers issued 544 citations, 99 for speeding, 180 for seat belt violations and three child restraint violations. In addition, troopers made eight DUI arrests, 45 other arrests, investigated four traffic collisions and conducted 12 safety checkpoints.

    Also, 219 other citations were issued.

  • Shelbyville Police Reports May 29, 2009

    William C. Russell, 45, of Shelbyville, was arrested May 27 on Main Street and was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and failure to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change.

    Joshua B. Spaulding, 20, of Eminence, was arrested May 27 on Osprey Cove and charged with disregarding a stop sign, failure to wear a seat belt and operating on a suspended operator’s license.

    Donald Douglas, 37, of Lousville, was arrested May 26 at Highway 55 and I-64 and charged with speeding 19 miles over the speed limit.

    John D. Yuhasty, 32, of Louisville was arrested Sunday at Old Mount Eden and Seven Mile Road and charged with DUI first offense with aggravating circumstance and careless driving.

    Lincoln K. Washington, 39, of Frankfort was arrested Saturday on Taylorsville Road and charged with DUI.

      Other  

    Dennis K. Douthitt, 49, of Shelbyville was arrested Friday on 1st Street and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, first and second offense.

  • Shelbyville Police Reports May 22, 2009

    Christopher L. Coffman, 26, of Louisville, was arrested Tuesday on Mount Eden Road and charged with alcohol intoxication.

    Joseph L. Feldman, 25, of Louisville, was arrested Tuesday on Mount Eden Road and charged with DUI first offense.

    Marcia Payne, 21, of Shelbyville, was arrested Wednesday at Lynn Acres and charged with disorderly conduct and hindering apprehension.

    Charles H. Lee, 36, of Albany, Ky., was arrested Wednesday on Taylorsville Road and charged with DUI second offense.
