    Donna Dutton:

    Dewayne S. Coons, operating on suspended/revoked operator's license and failure to surrender revoked operator's license - guilty - 90-day sentence, serve 30 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years  $143 costs; first-degree criminal trespassing - guilty - six-moth sentence, serve 30 days, balance conditionally discharged for 2 years and $144 costs.

  • Family seeks dog lost in fire

    A family whose house burned two weeks ago is still looking for a dog that disappeared from the home the night of the fire, the sheriff's office said.

    Deputy Mike Murray, who investigated the fire on Jail Hill Road on May 13, in which arson is suspected, said the family found one dog dead at the home but cannot locate the other.

    "The other one is still at large," he said.

    The dog is described as a 13-year-old black lab, weighing about 100 pounds, with a square face and one foot with white on the toe.

      District court The following cases were heard by Judge Donna Dutton:

    Glenn M. Day, first-offense DUI - plead guilty - 10-day sentence conditionally discharged for 2 years, operator's license suspended for 30 days and $728 fine and costs.

    Terry A. Beasley, resisting arrest, second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot) and first-offense DUI - guilty - 30-day sentence, operator's license suspended for 30 days and $728 fine and costs.

  • Local man is first graduate of drug court

    A courtroom might seem a strange place to hold a celebration, but for Paul Rucker, it was entirely appropriate. For he had come full circle.

    Rucker, 57, a former cocaine addict, stood in front of his family and friends in the Shelby County Circuit Courtroom on Friday and made a tearful, yet joyful statement.

    "I am so happy today," he said, with tears streaming down his face. "Because I am free at last."

    As the crowd, which included judges and court officials, burst into thunderous applause, Rucker smiled through his tears.

  • Shelby County grand jury indictments May 1, 2009

    Everett G. Simerly of Nashville, Tenn., was indicted for flagrant non-support.

    Artemio Rodriguez-James of Shelbyville was indicted for second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

    Jeremy E. Norton of Bloomfield, Ky., was indicted for unlawful possession of a methamphetamine.

    Helen A. Waits of Shelbyville was indicted for theft of identity.

    Gonzalez-Herrera of Louisville, was indicted for flagrant nonsupport.

    Carlos Cruz of Shelbyville, was indicted for second-degree forgery, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, operating a motor vehicle without an operator’s license, and operating a motor vehicle with one headlight.

  • Crime Stoppers seeks info on criminal mischief

    The public is urged to help Crime Stoppers locate the person(s) responsible for an act of criminal mischief which took place on May 30 between 8 and 9 p.m. on the 80th block of Bland Avenue.

    At that time, someone used a knife or other sharp instrument to cut a section of vinyl out of soft top on a Jeep.

    Damage to the vehicle is estimated at about $500.

  • Woman jailed for falsely reporting rape

    A Shelby County woman was arrested Thursday night after she confessed to lying about being raped, police say.

    Kera Hudspeth, 18, of Shelbyville is charged with falsely reporting a rape.

    A police report provided by Kentucky State Police, the arresting agency, said that on Jan. 2 Hudspeth went to Jewish Hospital at 3 a.m., where she reported having been raped earlier that evening by a Shelbyville man.
