  • Machete-wielding assailant attacks Pleasureville man at his home

    PLEASUREVILLE – An unidentified assailant attacked a Henry County man with a machete at his home Monday morning.

    Christopher Cooper, 29, of Pleasureville said he didn’t know who attacked him at about 4:30 a.m.

  • Man arrested for allegedly hitting baby in the face

    A Shelbyville man was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12 years old.

    According to Shelbyville Police, Jose Lisandro Chavez Alas, 20, of 416 Sycamore Terrace allegedly struck his 6-month-old infant stepson in the face on Thursday, causing visible injury.

    The police report said the child’s mother was witness to the incident.

    Chavez, who is in the country illegally, also was served with an emergency protective order at the time of his arrest.

  • Motorcycle rider hospitalized in crash

    One person was injured Monday morning when a car and a motorcycle collided on Midland Trail.

    Shelbyville Police say that William T. Waits, 57, of Pleasureville was taken to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville for non-life-threatening injuries to his shoulder, hand and foot.

    The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. as Waits was exiting Haven Hill Road onto Midland Trail, and turned into the path of a sports utility vehicle driven by Shelila Brown Etherton, 40, of Waddy.

    Adam Clayton Chatterton, 25, of 1261 Pebble Drive was arrested May 5 on Victoria Drive and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, fourth-offense and driving on a DUI suspended license, first offense.

    Armando Mota Quiron Dixon, 23, of 3707 Mareli Drive was arrested March 12 at 800 Washington St. and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense, no operator's license and failure to transfer a motor vehicle

     

    Theft

    Holly Lefler, 32, of 403 Shelby Hall Drive was arrested March 16 on Taylorsville Road and charged with theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting).

  • 3 injured in accident on Midland Trail

    Three people were taken to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville with minor injuries after they were involved in a traffic accident on Midland Trail on Monday evening.

    Shelby County Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Ivers said Marilyn Durham, 57, Vicky Tipton, 52, and Hayley Harrod, 19, all of Shelbyville, were injured when their car driven by Durham driving was struck as it exited Thornton’s by a car driven by Maria Velasquez, 47, of Shelbyville.

    Neither Velasquez nor her two passengers was injured.

    The accident happened at 6:30 p.m.

  • Lexington man jailed after high-speed chase

    A high-speed chase Thursday night that began in Shelby and ended in Franklin County had all the makings of an action movie, complete with dozens of patrol cars racing along I-64 at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, spikes on the road and a Tasing.

    After pursuing German Lopez Gonzalez, 34, of Lexington for 16 miles, from mile marker 32 to marker 48, two miles into Franklin County, police were able to stop Gonzalez by putting spikes on the road to deflate his tires, said KSP trooper Hunter Martin, the arresting officer.

    Theft

    Wayne French, 23, of 183 Eastview Circle was arrested Feb. 26 at Walmart and charged with theft by unlawful taking.

    Jordan Gaines, 23, of 1276 Old Seven Mile Pike was arrested Feb. 28 on Taylorsville Road and charged with theft by unlawful taking.

    Heather R. Dorman, 19, of 210 Webbmont Circle, was arrested Feb. 28 on Taylorsville Road and charged with theft by unlawful taking.

    James M. Crabtree, failure to wear seat belts and first-offense failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance – pleaded guilty – $668 fine and costs.

  • Suit dismissed in Anderson refiled in Shelby

    As expected, a lawsuit against Shelby County resident and part-time City of Lawrenceburg attorney Robert W. Myles that was dismissed in Anderson Circuit Court has been refilled in Shelby County.

    The lawsuit, filed this week in the name of Shelby County resident Diane Stucker, had claimed that a security agreement created in 2004 by Myles for Stucker and her husband inadequate for the couple to recoup more than $100,000 from the sale of livestock and other items on a 3-year balloon payment.
