  • Man charged in jail fight gets 2 years for assault

    A former Shelby County Detention Center inmate was given a 2-year sentence in Shelby Circuit Court Monday for second-degree assault in connection with a physical altercation with another inmate.

    Ciereon Thompson, 21, had originally been charged with first-degree assault when the fight occurred in March 2014, a Class B felony, which carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison.

    Makayla B. Quintero, 21, of 103 Lanter Ave. was arrested March 10 on Frankfort Road and charged with careless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, improper equipment and failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance, first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree promoting contraband.

    Ruben J. Warr, 24, of 11618 Summit Crest Apartments, No. 202, in Louisville was arrested March 23 on I-64 and charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and speeding.

  • Two homes sustain heavy fire damage

    No one was injured in two separate structure fires that heavily damaged rental homes located on Hazel Lawn and in the Country Manor subdivision off La Grange Road Sunday.

    Shelby County Fire Chief Bobby Cowherd said that the Red Cross has been working with the tenant on Hazel Lawn, who had been displaced by the blaze; no one was living at the other location.

  • Shelby man killed in fatal accident

    Kenneth Shane Ratliff, 36, of Shelby County was killed in a single vehicle accident Thursday evening on the 3000 block of La Grange Road.

    Police say that Ratliff, who was alone in his vehicle, was pulling a trailer with a single axle dump truck when he ran off the road, at about 5:30 p.m.

  • No injures in fire at asphalt plant

    No one was injured at an early morning fire at an asphalt plant on Brooks Industrial Drive Monday.

    Shelbyville Fire Chief Kevin Baker said the fire started in an asphalt tank at 1 a.m. at Shelbyville Asphalt at 1600 Brooks Industrial Drive.

    He added that his crews were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries to the tank or the building.

    The tank was located inside the asphalt plant. Baker said no cause has yet been determined as to the origin of the blaze.

  • Shelby man charged in murder turns himself in

    A Shelbyville man who had been on the run since Saturday on murder charges has turned himself in, said police.

    Kentucky State Police have been searching for Eugene Wade Jr., 28, of Shelbyville, along with Devante Hall, 24, of Dayton, Ohio, in connection with the shooting deaths of two people, Brandy Davidson, 25, and Devin Payton, 33, whose bodies were discovered Saturday.

    Kentucky State Police spokesman Scott Ferrell said Wade turned himself in at Post 6 in Dry Ridge at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

  • Murder trial date is set for Monday

    Miroslav Kuzmanovic, who was indicted in July 2015 for murder and other charges in connection with a fatal accident on I-64, is scheduled for a jury trial Monday.

    At Kuzmanovic’s pretrial hearing Monday, prosecutors asked Shelby Circuit Judge Charles Hickman if the trial could be rescheduled because two key witnesses in the case would not be available during that time frame.
