Dealers are saying that the state of the auto industry has looked better in recent weeks, but they’re also saying that better doesn’t equal good with today’s economy.

“Business is really good, within consideration that times are really bad,” said Larry Pitts, Sales & Finance Director of O’Brien Ford Mercury of Shelbyville.

There were plenty of oohs and aahhs heard all over the room this week at a technology fair in Shelbyville.

The fair, put on Wednesday and Thursday by Creative Image Technologies at its facilities on Breighton Circle, was planned to allow educational leaders from across Kentucky see the cool new tools available to them.

This was his company's first such fair, and it was so successful that there are plans to try to make it an annual event, said Jim Porter, director of sales and marketing.

People still seem to be making their way to restaurants to eat, just maybe not with the same appetites.

“They [the restaurants] all seem to be doing well,” Shelby Development Corporation Director Eileen Collins said. “I think everybody has been hit by the recession, but I think everyone is holding their own.”

Many Shelbyville restaurants say they are hanging on the same way their customers are -- with careful money management.
