Farm Bureau names Murphy as top agent in Kentucky

Neil Murphy, Shelby County agent for Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance, has been named Agent of the Year, an award that recognizes excellence in overall sales production, satisfactory loss-ratio, service to policyholders and an affirmative attitude.

Murphy, a graduate of Shelby County High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Centre College then in October 2009 followed in his father Pat’s footsteps and became an agent.

Beware basketball businesses that might steal your money

Don’t doubt the big business of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. In fact, it has drawn the attention of the Better Business Bureau in Louisville.

BBB issued an alert to advise fans to check out ticket offers before investing their money in the tournament, warning that some merchandise is stolen and counterfeit and that some tickets advertised in public forums such as Craigslist are in fact bogus.

Fuel prices rise again – but trend may cease

Although it may not yet feel like it – and you may not even see it soon – the month-long stretch of rising fuel prices has stopped.

Average retail gasoline prices in the Louisville area have risen 6.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.79 per gallon as of Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 644 gas outlets in Louisville. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.9 cents per gallon in the past week to $3.72.
