    Shelbyville veterinarian Jack Easley has been awarded Diplomte status by the Equine Veterinary Dental Specialists. He is one of only 12 in the United States.

    Equine dentistry was just recently recognized as a specialty by the American Board of Veterinary Specialists.

  • Universities begin hemp research

    With hemp seeds just getting into the ground, farmers around the state, including in Shelby, still have a lot of questions about the possibility of growing industrial hemp.

    Sen. Paul Hornback (R-Shelbyville), chair of the Agriculture Committee, said he’s had some feedback from farmers who say they aren’t quite sure what would be involved.

    “We will have some meetings about it later on,” he said.

    Shelby County Farmer Ray Tucker said he had done some research online about growing industrial hemp and he has some concerns.

  • Second job fair has good turnout

    Officials of the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass expressed satisfaction with the results of a second job fair Wednesday to help staff the shops of the mall, expected to open this summer.

    Dan Davilla, manager of the 364,000 square foot retail center, said he was pleased with the turnout.

    “There are quite a few more [retailers] than last time,” he said. “I don’t have a tally right now; but it’s going great.”

  • MaxCare Urgent Treatment sold to Baptist Health

    Baptist Health will now join Jewish Hospital, KentuckyOne Health, and Norton Healthcare in Shelby County.

    The Louisville-based company plans to close on the sale of MaxCare Urgent Treatment today, and Drs. Paul Goodlett and Ron Creque Jr., said the state of healthcare led them to sell.

  • Outlet mall will have 2nd job fair at Collins

    After a successful first job fair in April, the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass is planning a second job fair in Shelby County on Wednesday.

    This event, like the first one, will be in the gym at Collins High School from 4 p.m. to 7:30, but while the first event requested that applicants be 18-and-older, this one states applicants should be at least 16 years of age.

    With the mall set to open by the end of July, retailers and restaurants will be looking to fill several positions. More than 30 retailers attended the first job fair.

  • McDonald’s officials say no go for Simpsonville location

    Addressing a rumor that had been circulating about the possibility of a new McDonald’s locating in Simpsonville, City Manager David Eaton said he had heard that could be the case, but that he had not gotten any official word.

    “No one’s contacted us about anything like that,” he said.

    McDonald's officials say they can’t confirm that a new restaurant will locate at the site of the former BP Station in Simpsonville, but that it is a possibility.
