Who we are: After 22 years in the beauty business, Barbie Newton is taking her knowledge and experience to a new facility that will offer the best service possible. She has opened Barbara-Jay Nail & Skin Care Salon that she has designed into what she believes to be the ideal space for customers.

What we do: The salon offers a full array of services including: manicures, pedicures, full body waxing, facials and specialty facials. And Alicia Yost offers hair dressing.

Kathy Nichols and Jennifer Decker took home top honors on Monday night, when the Shelby County Professional Women’s Club met to acknowledge National Business Women’s Week and to name its Woman of the Year and Woman of Achievement.

As a child, Dr. Donn Chatham would sit in the pews at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville and doodle. He recalls those Sundays that while his mother would play the organ or piano, he would sit next to his dad and doodle, which always got him into some Sunday trouble.

He says he would stop doodling and try as he might to concentrate on the sermon, but he inevitably became transfixed by the geometric patterns in the stained glass windows that adorned the church.
