    Who we are: January was National Radon Action Month, and one Shelbyville company was even more aware of than most people. Alpha Radon Services, LLC, owned by Kent & Carolyn Kile, is Shelby County's first Radon mitigation and measurement company.

  • New business: New U salon

    Address: 803 Taylorsville Road, Shelbyville.

    Who we are: Master stylists include owner Treba King as well as Kate Roberts, Debbie Brunner and Patsy Lewis.

    What we do: The shop offers a variety of services including hair cuts for women, men and children, as well as coloring, highlighting, permanents, fused extensions and graffiti extensions. Also available are waxing, facials, cosmetic application and special up-dos.

    The facility also features a bridal package, which includes a private suite in which brides can dress.

  • Hanging up the closet

    Sylvia’s Closet, the longtime consignment shop for children in downtown Shelbyville, is for sale – but it’s not going to be closed.

    Norma Reidy, who has owned the boutique at 416 Main Street for 9½ years, 5 at that location, says it’s time for her to make a change, but she’s not going to, well, close up shop.

    CUB officials to help Scouts

    Pat Hargadon, district chair for Boy Scouts in the Pioneer District, which includes Shelby County, has announced that Billie Wade and David Bowling of Citizens Union Bank will serve as co-chairs of the Shelby County Friends of Scouting Campaign.

    Who we are: Owner Mary Gonda started the property management business six years ago, and it grew so quickly that she sold it. However, on Jan. 1 this year she got the business back when the former owner no longer wanted to operate it.

    822 Main has also become a family business for Gonda.

     Dietrich-Barnes joins The Sentinel-News

    Diana Dietrich-Barnes has joined the staff of The Sentinel-News as an advertising consultant. Dietrich-Barnes is a native of the Middletown/Anchorage area and the former owner of a small interior design business. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, she is married and the mother of three. She resides near Simpsonville.

  • Bekaert to expand plant on Isaac Shelby Drive

    A company in Shelbyville is planning to add 10 new jobs as a result of expansion of its plant.

    Bekaert Corporation, located on Isaac Shelby Drive, and established in Shelbyville in 1990, currently employs 101 full-time employees.

    The company plans to add a hot-dip galvanizing line to its 260,000 square-foot plant, where it manufactures drawn steel wire products. The "hot-dip" process will provide corrosion protection for wire used in exposed environments, said in a statement released from Gov. Steve Beshear's office.
