  • Rain not so sweet for honeybees

    Kentucky rain may have been a big hit with Elvis, but for the bee population, it has been causing problems this year, mainly with the head honcho of the hive – the queen bee, experts say.

    “There’s been a lot of swarming, but it seems the new queens haven’t been getting properly mated, and that is usually due to weather,” said Clay Guthrie, manager of Dadant & Sons, Inc., a national beekeeping supply chain with 11 stores nationwide, including one in Frankfort.

    Todd P. Lowe, a resident of Simpsonville, has been honored by the organization that sets the standards for the international investment industry.

    Lowe, president and founder of Parthenon LLC of Louisville, was among six investment professionals honored by CFA Institute for their contributions to the industry and the organization.

  • Crosley will occupy warehouse in Kingbrook

    A name was finally put to a warehouse/distribution center planned for Kingbrook Commerce Park in Simpsonville.

    Crosley, an electronics and furniture company, will open in March 2014 a 260,000-square-foot center in the industrial park that stretches along Buck Creek Road between U.S. 60 and the Shelby County Flea Market. Officials from Crosley, Noltemeyer Capital, and the city of Simpsonville made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon in a groundbreaking ceremony at the site.

  • CUB announces 2 new directors

    Steve Higdon and Gary Stewart, two veteran business leaders and owners from Louisville, have been elected as members of Citizens Union Bank’s board of directors.

    Higdon is vice president of Global Communications for Papa Johns International, Inc., and Stewart is a certified public account and a retired partner with Crowe Horwath LLP and Eskew and Gresham PSC.

    CUB President David Bowling said that Higdon and Stewart are a welcome additions to the board.
