  • SCHS student wins history award

    Ethan Russell of Shelby County High School won a first-place citation in the Kentucky Historical Society's 2011 Kentucky History Day district six contest in Frankfort.

    Russell won in senior individual performance for "Paving the Way for a Gold Standard."

    The theme for this year's contest is "Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures and Consequences."

    Winners advance to the state contest April 30 in Frankfort. The top three students in each category received a medal.

  • Shelby schools dominate technology competition

    Shelby County schools dominate at the Kentucky Technology Student Association State Conference on March 17-19

    Shelby County and Collins high schools placed first in eight events, second in 10 and third in five. Shelby County Public Schools swept a couple of events, taking first, second and third.

    Eight Shelby County students are eligible to go to the International Technology Student Association Conference to represent Kentucky this summer in Dallas.

     

  • Cozzens finishes 11th in geography bee

    In a repeat trip to the state National Geographic Bee, Paul Cozzens of Shelbyville, a seventh-grader at Corpus Christi Academy in Simpsonville, finished 11th out of 95 competing participants April 1.

    Falling just one question short of the final round, Cozzens achieved his goal of “making it to the tiebreaker round.”

  • 'Fancy; night out

    It was hard to determine who the real Fancy Nancy really was at Clear Creek Elementary. First-grade daughters and their moms had a delightful time at the Valentine Fancy Nancy Reading Night. Everyone had fun dressing the part, including the staff. The evening began with Fancy Nancy (Nancy Page) reading her favorite Fancy Nancy book, Fancy Nancy Heart to Heart. Fun activity stations requiring reading and writing skills were throughout the school library for everyone to enjoy.
