    The Smile KY program visited several public elementary schools in October. All students received dental education and a goodie bag. At Southside Elementary, 101 were screened, including these children showing off their smiles (from left) Derek Evans, Stone Smith, Alyse Miller, Abigail Vincente and Analyssa Wooten.

    Emily Rodgers, a 2010 graduate of SCHS made the dean’s list at Sullivan College of Technology and Design for the summer quarter of 2011. She has satisfactorily completed requirements leading to a quarterly grade-point average between 3.5 or above. She is the daughter of Bob and Paula Bryant of Waddy.

    "Problem with hiring me?" I repeated, hoping I didn't sound as shaky as I felt.

    "Unfortunately, yes," Mrs. Grant responded. "In order for you to be employed and paid by the library, we must enter your information in our system. The same is true for Chloe. When we entered your information Woody, we noticed you owed $1.14 in overdue book fees."

    "Oh, no! It must have been when I kept those Inspector Gadget books too long. Mrs. Grant, if I pay the fee today, can I still get the job?"

  • Scholl makes honor choir

    Olivia Scholl of Shelby County High School is one of 190 students in grades 10-12 from 11 states – and only six from Kentucky – who were selected for the 2012 ACDA Southern Division High School Honor Choir. The 2012 Southern Division ACDA honor choir will be Feb. 29-March 3 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

    Olivia is a senior and the daughter of Noel and Julie Scholl of Waddy.

  • Collins dance team

    The Collins Dance Team participated in the Cheers for the Holidays dance competition in Lexington on Nov 12. They received second place in both pom-pom and hip hop. They also won best overall choreography. Later that day they volunteered at Hanna's Day of Hope in memory of Hanna Evans. The event is held annually to raise awareness and money to fight childhood cancer and to collect toys for children in the hospital during Christmas.

    Hance on UK dean’s list

    Samantha Elaine Hance of Shelbyville made the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at the University of Kentucky. She is seeking a bachelor of science in special education – -moderate and severe disabilities major. She is the daughter of Anthony Hance and Cynthia Medley Hance of Shelbyville and granddaughter of Sam and Joyce Medley of Finchville the late Wallace and Inez Hance of Bagdad.
