  • 7 Shelby students at Fall Super Saturdays

    Steven students from Shelby County are among the more than 500 first-through-eighth-graders who were chosen for the Center for Gifted Studies’Fall Super Saturdays program.

    Those participating came from two states and more than 40 school districts and attended Western Kentucky University’s campus in Bowling Green and the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville each Saturday through last week.

    Shelby Countians who were selected to attend included:

  • Santa needs letters, artwork

    The Sentinel-Newsagain this year invites children to write letters to Santa Claus or submit a drawing about Christmas to be judged for a prize, with as many entries as possible being published in a special section on Christmas Eve.

    The letters, by children ages 6 to 9, can be about a child’s Christmas wishes and also about what the holiday means to him or her.

    “What is that smell?” Chloe asked Pa as the nasty odor filled the truck.

    “That’s cow manure,” Pa explained.

    “Cow manure?” I repeated, unsure of what cow manure was but happy I wasn’t responsible for the rancid scent.

  • Prism concert at CHS

    The Fine Arts Department of Collins High School on Oct. 29 staged its second annual Prism Concert. This concert showcased the talents of the orchestra, marching band, drum line, symphonic band, concert band, various choirs and drama. Students from the art department painted, and the music flowed around them.

  • Cornerstone celebration for grandparents

    A record crowd of more than 500 guests joined Cornerstone Christian Academy to celebrate the 2013 luncheon for grandparents. Preschool-through-fifth-grade students presented musical performances.
