  • Baby sitter training

    The American Red Cross and Clear Creek Family Resource Center collaborated to get a group of Shelby County students certified to baby sit through 9-hours of training in a three day period. The trainer, Vicki Ledford, covered everything from leadership, the business of babysitting, safety, child development, feeding, and what to do in case of an emergency.

    The list of graduates for the 2011 Spring Commencement exercises at Morehead State University includes Lora Mullins from Shelbyville, bachelor of social work degree; and Kevin Luken from Simpsonville, bachelor of music degree.   • Tomorrow’s leaders serve today through 1:8 experience; local students among those serving

    Shelbyville natives Rachel Shannon and Kelsie Witham are among 55 members of the Kentucky Baptist Collegiate Ministries serving in  this summer with the 1:8 Leadership Experience.

    Initiated in 2008 with a group of 19 students, the 1:8 Leadership Experience has equipped students to serve as short-term missionaries in Louisville, McDowell, Denver, San Francisco, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and countries in Europe and Asia. Of the 75 previous 1:8 participants, 26 have taken steps toward full-time Christian service.

  • Bellarmine University dean's list

    Bellarmine University has named the dean's list students for the spring 2011 semester. The dean's list recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. The following local residents were named to the dean's list:

  • 2011 Tiny Tot pageant will be Friday

    The 2011 Tiny Tot pageant will be held in Floral Hall at 7 p.m. Friday. All 2-year-olds can check in at 6:30 p.m., and 3- and 4-year-olds can check in at 7 p.m. Flowers and decoration donated by Pathelen Gift and Flower Shop. Crowns and prizes are sponsored by Shelby County A&M Association. Decorations donated by Shelby Christian Church. The pageant is sponsored by Danielle Dixon with RE/MAX Performance Realty.

    UK dean’s list
    Jon Collins was named to the dean’s list at the University of Kentucky for the spring 2011 semester. He is a sophomore studying secondary education-social studies education in the college of education. The school recognizes students who have achieved a 3.5 GPA and above. He is the son of Matt and Peggy Collins of Shelbyville.

  • Storks in school

    Children in Preschool through second grade practiced walking like storks while learning a poem. The students attending the federal migrant summer program were preparing for a trip to the Louisville Zoo. Field trips are incorporated into the summer school that also offers academic opportunities through July 8 at Clear Creek Elementary.

  • Shelby County Teen pageant is Tuesday

    Shelby County girls will compete in the Miss Shelby County Teen pageant at the fair Tuesday. The winner will compete in the Miss Teen Kentucky County Fair pageant. The contestants, 13- to 16-years-old who all attend Shelby County High School, are judged on beauty, poise and personality.
