    These students from Shelby County graduated from Christian Academy of Louisville this spring.

    Giltner graduates from McCallie
    John Giltner of Simpsonville graduated from the McCallie School, a college preparatory school for boys in Chattanooga, Tenn. He is the son of Bob and Terri Giltner of Simpsonville, and he will attend the University of Puget Sound.

  • Washington field trip

    The eighth-grade students at Cornerstone Christian Academy took a class field trip to Washington, D.C. with stops at Mount Vernon, Gettysburg and Hershey, Pa. A highlight of the trip was the honor of participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery.

    Matthews on dean’s list at Vanderbilt

    David Baxter Matthews made the dean’s list at Vanderbilt University. Matthews, a junior who attends the college of arts and science and has a major in political science and economics, received a grade-point average of 3.75. Students must have a 3.5 to make the dean’s list. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and is the son of Melissa and Charlie Matthews, both of Shelbyville, and grandson of Betty Matthews and Josie Moffett.

    Claire Schaefer was crowned the 2012 Shelby County Fair teen.

    Contestants for the Little Miss and Mister will be judged at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Floral Hall. They should be at the show ring no later than 6 p.m. County winners will be eligible for the state contest at the Kentucky State Fair. First-place winners will receive $30, roses and a crown, plus a $100 savings bond. Second-place winners will receive $20, roses and a ribbon. Third-place winners will receive $15, roses and a ribbon. The pageant is sponsored by Danielle Dixon with Re/Max Performance Realty.

  • 2012 Shelby County Fair

    The Tiny Tot pageant will be held in Floral Hall at 6 p.m. Friday. All 2-year-olds can check in at 5:45 p.m., 3-year-olds by 6:30 p.m. and 4-year-olds can check in at 6:45 p.m. The pageant is sponsored by Danielle Dixon with Re/Max Performance Realty.

  • 16 to compete for Miss Shelby County Fair

    Sixteen Shelby County girls will compete Tuesday in the Miss Shelby County Fair pageant.

    A contestant must have reached her 16th birthday by Oct. 31 and shall not have reached her 22nd birthday by Oct. 31 of the year when the contest is held. Contestants will be judged from the standpoint of beauty, poise and personality.

    At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, they will compete in casual attire, followed by formal attire at 7:30. There is also a private showing in bathing attire for judges only.
