    All hands were raised to affirm they understood “Level 0” voices as Clear Creek Elementary teacher Eric Miracle prepared his children to go to music class on the first day of school. They toured various areas of the building where they hallway procedures were taught like walking on the right side, holding a bubble of air in your mouth, and keeping arms crossed in front, or in back like a ducktail.

  • On campus: Holt Tripp and Calla Roberts

    Tripp accepted at OSU Veterinary College
    Holt Tripp of Shelbyville was among 83 students accepted into the incoming class of 2015 at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. Tripp is the son of Beth and Phil Tripp of Shelbyville, a graduate from Shelby County High School and earned a BS degree in Agriculture with a minor in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University. Tripp received the Totusek All-Around Freshman Award and the Senior Award of Merit from OSU’s Department of Animal Science.

  • Athletes in Action

    Shelby County High School soccer player Casey Hill painted the Rockets’ logo on freshly painted trashcans on the school property. Principal Eddie Oakley and his staff worked with the athletic teams to transform the property into well-groomed landscaping and grounds as a service learning project. Each team adopted certain areas, along with some adult assistance.

  • Road warmer

    Miles Megibben put the finishing touches on his vehicle that would be tested on his Road Warmer invention as part of the Talented And Gifted Camp June 27-30 at Heritage Elementary. The fifth-grader at Simpsonville Elementary described how repeated layers of asphalt and metal heating plate “10 miles below the surface” are topped with concrete to “interlock with the earth.” Once “frozen precipitation falls,” and lands on the road, the metal plates are switched on, to “ melts and is absorb [the precipitaiton], thus preventing wrecks.”
