    Morrison gets PhD at UofL
    Connie Elaine Morrison received the doctor of philosophy in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in special education from the University of Louisville. She is a graduate of Shelby County High School and received her bachelor degree from Eastern Kentucky University and masters degree from UofL.

  • Business winners at Cornerstone event

    Cornerstone Christian Academy held a Christmas dinner and auction “The Jingle Bell Ball” in December. Approximately 200 guests had dinner, live entertainment by Kool Jazz Soundz and purchased 91 silent auction items, three live auction items and 43 wreaths. The event brought in $13,000. The poinsettia tree held 157 poinsettias and was handcrafted by one of the parents, Brad Lee.

  • STLP team earns state berth

    Shelby County's Student Technology Leadership Program qualified for the state STLP competition in March.

    The group collaborated with the Shelby County Historical Society and the Saddlebred Kentucky Junior Historical Society to create a self-guided tour of downtown Shelbyville.

    Students ranging from elementary to high school learned how to use audacity audio recording and editing software, students recorded scripts with background music and sound files to load to the Shelby County Historical Society's Web page.

  • On campus: Shawn Crowe

    Shawn Daniel Crowe graduated in December with a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the JB Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. Crowe graduated with high honors. He is an engineer with KPPC in Louisville. Crowe is the son of Coy and Danielle Crowe of Shelbyville, grandson of Dan and Myra Hardesty of Shelbyville and Yvonne Crowe of Franklinton, LA.

    The following students enrolled at the Shelby County Area Technology Center have received the Student of the Month for December, which is given to a student who is exemplary in the academic areas of the classroom: Tyler Chambers, office technology; Anthony Misner, office technology; Joseph Martin, automotive technology; Kayla McKinney, health science; Alex Dunn, industrial maintenance; and Michael Ducharm, information technology.

  • CPA group offers summer camp

    The Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants is taking applications now through Feb. 29 for its free summer business camp program for high school juniors and seniors.

    The event will be June 10-14 at Bellarmine University’s campus in Louisville, and selected students will stay on campus fully supervised and learn the basics of business and accounting in a hands-on, interactive format.
