    Shelby students on Baylor dean’s list

    Two from Shelby County were among the more than 3,200 Baylor University students who were named to the dean's academic honor list for the 2013 spring semester. To be named to the list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

    With destinations of Russia, Greece, Zimbabwe and Ireland – in addition to four Kentucky communities – Ashley Nichole Travis of Shelbyville is among the 38 Kentucky college students and four coordinators serving through this summer’s “1:8 Leadership Experience” are sharing their Christian faith through a multi-faceted and multi-cultural approach.

  • Seniors make an impact

    Seniors in the engineering class at Collins High School pack supplies they collected for care packages to a National Guard platoon in Afghanistan. Josh Whittle, a 2012 graduate of Collins, is a member of the unit. His mother, Karen Whittle, said, “It’s a true blessing. It touches my heart.”

  • Girl Scout troop earns bronze award

    Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 658 of Heritage Elementary earned some of their bronze award hours by running a drive at their school and local neighborhoods. More than 500 items were collected and delivered to the  5-year anniversary event for Shelby County No-Kill. Dakota McMunn (from left), Mackenzie Burgin, Mallory Moses, Braylyn Beckley and Grace Clark participated. Other members (not pictured) were Harley Gaines, Gracie Rice, Alex Bramblett, Kayle Bowman, Alivia Chandler, Emily Tipton, Madeline Nethery and Brianne Sharar.

  • Clear Creek students show birdhouses

    Clear Creek Elementary students Parker and Payton Nowitzke show off their birdhouses – a craft they made after listening to Riki's Birdhouse by Monica Wellington. The school's library will be open this summer to Clear Creek students for more book checkouts, stories and crafts from 10 to 11 a.m. on July 2, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on July 16 and 10 to 11 a.m. on July 30.

    Courtney Lynn Wilsongraduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry as a dental hygienist. She is the daughter of Scott and Judy Wilson and granddaughter of Wayne and Peggy Puckett, Nancy Wood and the late David Wilson.

    Cornerstone Christian Academy’s hosted the third annual Ag Day. Students visited vendor booths and learned about agriculture in a ‘hands-on’ way.

    Sanchez attends Navy summer seminar
    Sophia Sanchez,
    a student at Collins High School, was selected to participate in the 2013 U.S. Naval Academy summer seminar program. Approximately 2,550 young men and women from around the nation and abroad were invited to attend this program.

    Shelby students pinned at Campbellsville
    Campbellsville University students receiving education degrees were told to "be the best teacher you can be; work at it" by. Frank Cheatham, senior vice president for academic affairs at CU in the School of Education's Pinning ceremony in the Russ Mobley Theater. The Shelby County students were recognized at the pinning ceremony:
