Youth

The students were figuring out the Pythagorean Theorem (the relationship between lengths of legs and hypotenuse of any right angle) in Angela Carter’s math class at the Education Center @ Cropper. Some were struggling so as Carter and Superintendent James Neihof offered one-on-one guidance. Chris Noack helped his fellow students by asking probing questions to find the answer.

Of the 12 Shelby County teams competing at the Kentucky  Odyssey of the Mind Tournament at the University of the Cumberlands, four took home a second-place trophies and are advancing to the World Finals Competition on May 23-27 at Iowa State University in Ames.

At World Finals, the teams will compete with teams from across the nation and 27 countries.  This international competition is the “Olympics” of problem-solving.

Shelby students accept scholarships to EKU

Four Shelby County students are among the hundreds of incoming freshmen and transfer students who accepted merit-based scholarships to attend Eastern Kentucky University. They were:

•Heather Amos, Shelbyville, Shelby County High School, Excellence Scholarship.

•Sarah Bryant, Shelbyville, Shelby County High School, Presidential Scholarship.

•Julia Kennedy, Shelbyville, Shelby County High School, Excellence Scholarship.

Cornerstone Christian Academy students participate in a Read-A-Thon fundraising event at which students collect sponsors for the number of pages they read during the event. To kick off the event, each class participated in a door decorating contest around the 2012 Read-A-Thon event theme “iREAD – The world in the palm of your hand.”
