  • Buckler receives national honor

    Bethanee Buckler, a junior at Collins High School, has been selected to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She was one of 10 top scholars who demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. She is the daughter of John and Patricia Buckler of Shelbyville.

  • Russell among Youth Salute honorees

    Ethan Russell from Shelby County was among juniors from 45 high schools in Central Kentucky who were recognized in this year’s 33rd annual “Youth Salute” awards ceremony held at Asbury University. 

  • Cornerstone hosts college fair

    Cornerstone Christian Academy hosted a College Fair on Sept. 10. Representatives from University of Kentucky, Transylvania, Georgetown, University of Cincinnati, Kentucky Mountain Bible College, Cincinnati Christian, Western Kentucky University, Kentucky Christian and University of the Cumberlands were on campus to visit with Cornerstone juniors and seniors and their parents.

  • SCHS dance team

    The Shelby County High School Dance Team hosted the annual Kids Dance Camp at SCHS and performed at the home football game on Aug. 30. Members of the SCHS varsity dance team (in pink) for 2013-2014 are Alex Skellie, Heather Cook, Emilee Colvin, Olivia Matlin, Miranda Tirbs, Claire Schaefer, Lindsey Hill, Samantha Armstrong and Claire Dale.

  • Mayor visit Southside

    Shelbyville Mayor Tom Hardesty visited Southside Elementary and spoke to the third-graders. He discussed local government as well as how to become a mayor.

    “Dogwood, what have you done?” Dad asked as he cleaned green beans off the ceiling fan while Mom wiped mashed potatoes out of my sister Chloe’s hair. “I’m sorry, Dad,” I said after swallowing some baked chicken, “but when Chloe said ‘food fight,’ I had to throw something.”

    “Food fight?” Mom, Dad and Chloe questioned simultaneously.
