Saylor Aylmer said he knew when he was young that as an adult he wanted a job that had something to do with helping people. Aylmer, a 2003 graduate of Shelby County High School, has found his niche: the Family Resource Center coordinator for the preschool classes at Painted Stone Elementary. “This is a dream job!” he said with a big grin. A recent visit to the classroom prompted “Hi Mr. Saylor!” from a number of children, one who even asked him to tie his shoes.

Hamilton makes dean’s list at EKU

Sophomore Justin Hamilton of Finchville is on the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Eastern Kentucky University. His major is recreation and park administration and a concentration in natural resources and park management.

Family Consumer Science students – Aaliyah Wells, K’Sha Stoner and Cheyann Triplett – were proud of their completed gingerbread house. The projects were displayed in the school library, and the staff selected an winner. The girls said the project took about three days to complete and that they also made the icing.

Ryan Ruff, who sometimes is hidden behind the Titans mascot costume at Collins High School, recently was elected president at Kentucky Beta Convention.

Ryan, the son of Dan and Liz Ruff, was part of a skit for fellow Collins student Leslie Hobbs last year, and he said he knew then he wanted to try his hand at the position.

His platform theme was Twitter. “I tweeted constantly,” he said.
