  • Shelby student spends week in Washington

    A Shelby County youth student is one of two Kentucky high school students that just returned from spending a week at the nation’s capital.

    Cyrus “Cy” Dutton IV of Shelbyville and Samuel Miller of Prospect were chosen from across the state to be part of the group of 104 student delegates who attended the program’s 53rdannual Washington Week March 7-14.

    The U.S. Senate Youth Program comes with a $5,000 scholarship from the Hearst Foundation.

  • 4 to compete for Miss Shelby County Fair pre-teen pageant

    The Miss Shelby County Pre-Teen contest is Saturday at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Theme wear will begin at 4:30 p.m. and formal wear at 6.

    A contestant must be 8 years old by June 30 and not have reached her 13th birthday by Oct. 31. Five finalists will be chosen, from which a winner and first runner-up will be chosen from the standpoint of beauty, poise and personality.

  • 7 to compete for Miss Shelby County Fair teen pageant

    Shelby County girls will compete Tuesday in the Miss Shelby County Fair Teen pageant. The winner will compete in the Miss Teen Kentucky County Fair pageant. The contestants are judged on beauty, poise and personality.

    Local students named to Cumberlands’ dean list
    In recognition of academic performance, the office of the vice president for academic affairs has announced the students named to the dean's list for the 2016 spring semester. To be eligible, students must attain a minimum cumulative scholastic standing of 3.50 and be in good standing. Students named to the dean's list are as follows:

  • 12 to compete for Miss Shelby County Fair

    12 Shelby County girls will compete Tuesday in the Miss Shelby County Fair pageant.

    A contestant must have reached her 16th birthday by Oct. 31 and shall not have reached her 22nd birthday by Oct. 31 of the year when the contest is held. Contestants will be judged from the standpoint of beauty, poise and personality.

  • Retiring of the Color

    Collins High School Army and Franklin County High School Air Force JROTC Color Guards participated in the Retiring of the Color during the 2016 annual VVA, Memorial Day Service at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort.
