  • Becky and Brian Woodrow of Mt. Washington announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Woodrow of Mt. Washington to Spencer Young of Ft. Campbell. He is the son of Robin and David Young of Bagdad.

    She is a 2015 graduate of the University of Louisville and is a teacher in the Clarksville, Tenn. school system.

    He is a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School and 2013 graduate of U.S.A.F. T.A.C.P. program, Special Forces. He is an airman for the United States Air Force.

    The wedding will be June 13, 2015 at Highview Baptist Church.

  • Edwin and Nina Orem of Shelbyville have been married for 65 years. The couple was married on June 10, 1950, in the front yard of the bride’s home.

    Shelby Shape-Ups
    A new six-week series of Shelby Shape Ups meets at 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through July 10 at the Shelby County Extension Office. This arthritis foundation approved exercise class helps participants increase strength, improve balance and become more flexible. The class is only $25 for the 18 sessions, and free for Healthways Silver Sneakers participants. For more information, call 633-4593.

  • Army Spc. Jeremy H. Hall graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

  • Heather Douthitt and Steven Poole of Shelbyville announce the birth of their third child, a daughter, on day, May 18, 2015, at Baptist Health of Louisville. She has been named Kayzlee Dawn Poole.

    Siblings are Kaleb Norton, Keagan Poole, Rheagan Poole, and the late Hope Norton.

    Grandparents are Terry and Donna Douthitt of Shelbyville, and Steve Poole of Pleasureville.

    Great-grandparents Brenda Dorman of Louisville, Harvey Lenhart of Florida, the late Jack Douthitt and the late Florence Lenhart.

  • The fourth annual Shelby County Relay for Life Pageant hosted by Peggy's Posse was Saturday at Shelby Christian Church. The net amount raised after the $250 scholarship to the Miss Relay winner was $2,399.76 for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life event will be held June 13 from noon to midnight at Shelby County High School.
