  • Bessie Chowning of Shelbyville celebrated her 91st birthday with a picnic in her honor on her farm in Owen County in July. Attending were approximately 100 people including her brother Nelson and Ti Jones and their family; and Bessie’s children, Wanda and Roy Bailey, Nancy and Phil Metts, Mike and Erica Chowning; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

  • Monique Beach and Vincent Peete announce their engagement.

    She is an art therapist and graduate of the University of Louisville, and is the daughter of Eric Beach and the late Leslie Beach of Shelbyville.

    He is an information technology coordinator, and the son of Eugene and Linda Peete of Simpsonville.

    The couple has planned their wedding for May 2016 in Louisville.

  • Bobby and Rita Vest of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Ann Vest of Shelbyville, to John Joseph Kayrouz, of Louisville. He is the son of the late Judith Christine Holthouser and Dennis Lamar Clayton.

    She is a graduate of Shelby County High School and a CSR/teller for Commonwealth Bank & Trust in Shelby County. She is the granddaughter of Robert and Diane Long from Shelbyville and Reva Vest from Bagdad.

    He is a graduate of Jeffersontown High School and works production for Magna Seating in Shepherdsville.

  • Wade and Debbie Hembree of Shelbyvilleannounce the engagement of their daughter, Allie Hembree of Lexington, to Brandon Martin of Louisville. He is the son of Larry and Megan Martin of Louisville.

    The wedding will take place in December.

  • Charlotte and Sam Chandler have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Aug. 12, 1965.

    He retired after 40 years in education, serving as teacher, high school principal, assistant superintendent and dean of students.

    She is the former Charlotte L. Gowin and retired after 39 years with Commonwealth Bank and Trust Company (formerly Shelby County Trust Bank). She served as vice president.

  • Susan and James Ray Wiley of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Candice Wiley of Shelbyville to Daniel Iceman of Louisville. He is the son of Lisa and Dan Iceman of Louisville.

    Candice is a 2009 graduate of Shelby County High School and 2013 graduate of the University of Louisville where she played golf. She received her master’s degree in 2015 from the University of Louisville and will begin teaching health and P.E. at Eminence Independent Schools in the fall.
