  • Mike Grimes is in the process of putting a book together about Cropper and submitted this photo of the 1919 Cropper High School girls’ basketball team, courtesy of Kay Way, owner and operator of Our Best Restaurant in Smithfield. The 19 students were Justin England, Alexis Perry, Lillie Wood, Lexis Chadwell, Jessica Edington, Britney Cox, Paul Nethery, Cameron Brown, Zachary Delk, William Stivers and Jacob Cox.   • In observance of Earth Day 2016, Boy Scouts of Troop 164, sponsored by 1st Presbytarian Church, picked up trash along Old Mount Eden Road. Robert Green is the Scoutmaster of the troop, aided by adult leaders Keith Johnson and Lee Muncy.
