    The Homemakers book club, meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shelby County Extension office, 1117 Frankfort Road. Participants can bring their lunches and favorite books they have read to tell other club members about them and then take home a new book to read.   • Al-Anon convention begins Friday in Lexington

    The 51st Annual Kentucky Al-Anon Convention will be Friday through Sunday at the Clarion Hotel, 1950 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY. The conference will include Al-Anon, AA and Alateen speakers from Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas as well as several workshops. Registration fee for the entire weekend is $35.   • David and Marilyn Tamer of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Marie Tamer of Austin, Texas to Benjamin Wyatt Murguia of Austin, Texas. He is the son of Caroline Murguia and the late Raul Murguia of San Antonio, Texas.

    The couple will be married later this month at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville.

    MOPS meeting

    MOPS: Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6-7:30 p.m. today at Shelbyville First Baptist Church Shelbyville in room 300. Free childcare is provided for the moms attending the meetings. The children are divided into age-appropriate classes. Nursing infants may remain with moms. A family meal is offered in the church fellowship hall from 5 to 5:45 p.m. for $6 per adult and $1 per child. Mothers of Preschoolers is a program designed to nurture mothers with children from infancy through kindergarten.

    NAACP branch meeting

  • Andrew Joseph Edelen and Kelsi Faye Shipley were united in marriage Saturday, July 2.

    The groom is the son of Larry and Margarita Edelen from Vine Grove. The bride is the daughter of Todd and Michelle Shipley from Shelbyville.

    The wedding took place at the Shelby Hills Farm. Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth officiated.
